Hi Chrissy, I am new to this forum but have just bought my youngest a Mk3 1.4 Bezza so have been interested in the known clutch issues related to these cars. The clutch is cable operated so there may be some "free play" adjustment, but if your clutch is stiff, or a little jumpy or even noisy when pressing the pedal this may indicate an issue with the pedal box down in the footwell. Essentially the cable gets stiff causing weakness in the welded box construction which when the welds begin to fracture changes the bite point on the clutch which you describe. The Search function can reveal a lot on this, far better than I myself can. The problem is cureable if that is what is wrong with your car.
Good luck and Post back with your thoughts and findings
If its quite low then its fine, if it right at the top then you should think about changing it. You could bleed the clutch but prob won't make much difference, only really change the biting point is when you replace the clutch
