coil pack symtoms

Without warning, at a junction, went to pull off and car did not want to go, engine spluttering like it was not firing on all cylinders, within seconds "excess of pollution " warning light came on. Switched off engine hoping this might have cleared the fault, sadly it did not!
Managed to get the car home taking it real easy.
My question is, could this be a coil pack ?
If yes, how do I go about finding out which one it is?
any help much appreciated.
Many thanks
Karl

yeah deffo sounds like coils.

You need to do a current check on each coil to find out, or, unplug each one in turn and see which one makes no difference when unplugged

One on the top of each cylinder. Take the engine cover off and then you will see them. The leon has 3 that you can get to and one that has a thing on top that you need a spanner for. If you are replacing them then take care to pull the tab the right way to get the electrical connector off the back, do it wrong and you'll snap it off like some muppet has done on 2 of mine.

I look for cheap 2nd hand ones and keep a spare, paid £20 for a pair. The only problem with this is that they are certain to be old ones with the same inherent fault. If you buy a new one from a dealer (£37 each) then you will get the latest revision

That must of been quite scarey

yeah! Had been having a good race with a motorbike, he turned off and then I pulled out to pass a Golf. Was level with the car when the engine light started flashing and engine was stuttering. Guessed straight away what had happened. Phoned Seat Assistance and the daft women asked me if I had put the wrong fuel in it!:wtf:

Thanks for the advice.:)
Did as advised to find out which one was faulty, bought a new one from a local motor factors, fitted and job done. Except excessive pollution light is still lit. Do I need to disconnect the battery to clear this, or does it have to be done with a Vag com?
Oh by the way the new one cost £30.55, didn't think this was to bad, but will look out for one on E bay just to keep as a spare.

It should have just gone off immediately after you changed it. So yes, you might need to check what's up with VAG-COM I afraid. As I understand it this light can mean basically anything.
