Coil packs? Or not!?

Hi all,

My LCR was sometimes missing when accelerating in 6th gear. Now it's started juddering when under boost with the usual loss of power this brings. Usually it's the coilpacks the blame but I've tried replacing one at a time with a spare coilpack I had but the fault was always there. This could mean that my spare is also fecked but I noticed I had some signs of leaking from some of the injectors to. So my questions are.....

Could a leaking injector cause the juddering and non firing? (maybe by running the cylinder lean).
Spark plugs are NGK Iridium but are over 40,000 miles old. Could this be a problem?

Could still be a coil pack.

Thanks!

Not yet, it started playing up on the way to work. I'll do it when I get home this evening and post up anything I find.

The EML light has been flashing while it was juddering (again usually coilpacks) but that's all I can tell you at the moment.

another thing, aren't iridium's a no no for the 1.8t? well not a no no but people suggest copper equivalent with more regular replacement

Got come fault codes from the car...

Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
Cylinder 1 misfire detected

I'm not surprised about the fault codes but strangely it didn't misfire at all on the way home. Popped the bonnet up and found the injector on cylinder 4 was leaking quite a bit so I guess I'll just change all the injector seals and see how it goes.

Sounds like injector seal is fooked.

NGK Iridium's are great on 1.8T's by the way. Been using them for four years on my mapped LCR. Heat range 7 plugs. Really good :)

T0m, I didn't think there was an issue with the Iridium plugs. Mine are on about 45,000 miles now so I'm thinking they're due for changing.

I changed the TIP for a badger5 v3 TIP as the oem one was hanging off the turbo. Now the power is back but I reckon has made the problem worse.

All the injectors are leaking but cylinder 4 is the worst. Am I right in thinking the cylinders are numbered 1-4 counting from the cam belt?

If I'm right in the cylinder order I thought that the leak might have caused the misfire but the leak doesn't match the misfire seen on cylinder 1.

I've cleared all the fault codes so I'll see if any fault code returns. It really does sound like a coil pack giving up.

Yes mate cylinder 1-4 from the cambelt over towards battery side..

I had the same fault code on cylinder 1 and it was my coilpack dying. I replaced them for the TFSI one's and problem solved, car still felt sluggish starting up though so I replaced the battery and it starts up and idles good as new now. And no fault codes..

Well I've got 2 coilpacks spare from the last time I changed all 4 so no problems there.

Just ordered 4 injector seals from a company called Simply Bearings Ltd. My engine is AMK using Bosch injectors 0 208 156 063. The bottom seals (manifold side) are 7.53mm ID x 3.53mm OD at a cost of £7.80 delivered, which is better than the £15 odd TPS wanted.
