Hello all,

I have coilovers ready to install but i am slightly confused about how to adjust them to the correct height, there were no instructions with them and i have read loads of guides but no one mentions the adjusts, just the install.

Anyway, tha manufacturer says there are between a 25 and 60mm drop on the front and a 20mm to 40 mm on the back.

i want to just lower the car all round by 25mm.

i take it that when the adjuster ring is all the way at the bottom of the thread, then that equals a 60mm drop? but i want only a 25mm drop, do i simply measure 25mm on the threads and move it up to that position, is it that simple??

Pic below, it might help in what i am trying to explain.thanks for you help

Well, if you reduce the 60mm drop by 25mm you will have a 35mm drop won't you, you would need to move the spring seat from its lowest position by 35mm to achieve a 25mm drop.

This all assumes that it works in a linear fashion.

Don't you just put them on the car, adjust to a position that you find visually appealling and then just make sure both sides are the same? That's the benefit of the adjustment, surely?

Thanks Matt, i just wanted to make sure i understood how it worked before i put them on the car.I would rather have the height roughly adjusted while the wheels are off the ground, rather than having to jack it all up again and adjust.

And yes hopefully it all works in a linear fashion that was what was throwing me off in the first place, .i.e the whole 4.5 inch height of the thread could not be equal to an adjustment of 20-60mm on the ride height or could it!!

thanks

Thinking about it, it should be linear in response to adjustment of the spring seat.

I don't think you'll be able to tell the result until its on the wheels and you've driven the car for a while, it will almost certainly look higher when you take it off the stands than it'll end up being when you've driven it and its all settled.

I would start with the spring seat 35mm from its lowest position, take it for a drive and see what the result is, once you can see what that does you'll a good idea of how much to adjust them by if necessary.

What car is it and what is the 60mm maximum drop compared to? Different Leon models are at different heights as standard, you may find that you need more than 25mm of drop to actually be lower than your car already is.

Its a 05 LCR, sorry should have mentioned that in the first place. and thinking about it, this coilover is was for all 1M leons, so if i start with the standard Leon, the LCR is i read roughly 20mm lower, so i would need to add that into the equation no.

Yes, if the lcr is 20mm lower than standard and you want to go 25mm lower then you need to be 45mm lower overall, the spring seat needs to be 15mm up from its lowest position.

That's 10mm further down than it is in your picture.

if its for all leons it WONT FIT A CUPRA R. they are different. same kit as the skoda octavia VRS and 2 wheel drive audi TT. but the normal leon ones wont fit a cupra r. so make sure you have the correct ones first.

The drop links connect to the suspension leg. so if yous doesnt have a big tag sticking out the side of the suspension leg with a hole for a bolt to go through they arnt they right ones.

Why do you want to lower it by 25mm exactly? why dont you just set the height of the coilovers to where ever you want them, where ever you think its best or looks best. Fit them and just wind them all the way up and take it down from there... you wont be able to use the threads as a 25 mm 40 50 mm etc guide from the standard suspension it just wont work accurate like that.

The kits says for all Leon's as below
1M 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, Cupra 1.8T, 1.9SDi, 1.9TDi, Cupra 1.9TDi and FR 1.9TDi vehicle
i would think that it will fit? these ones http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=195371

Also if i go any lower than 25mm, i will not get in my drive way.

You beat me to it, i was jus about to post a pic of my old shock for you!

Yeh that's it, that's the droplink in the picture, with the bracket I was talking about.

Where did you get them from? Can you take them/send them back and get your money back?

They came from Germany!! those F'ing shower of beeeeeeeeeeeppsss, they assured me they would fit, i checked other shocks out that fit the TT and they all have the bracket for the drop link on them now that u mention it.
well i guess you live and learn, i will shift these on no bother as budget coilovers, actually think i might take a spin down town to where all the boy racers hang out and do a Del boy job on it, they would proably suit most MK4 golfs etc...
Thanks for your help, i was getting them fitted tomorrow morning, was the highlight of the month!! will have to cancel now and order different ones

time for a beer
