After 3 years of never getting round to it. Finally bought and attempted to fit my FK coilovers today. Only one major issue....the underside of the top mount has a diameter too wide for the inner diameter of the coil (if that makes sense) The coil is 72mm [internal] and the top mount is 80mm.

Can anybody tell me what the dimension of the small lip around which the coil should sit is on a standard top mount? I'm not convinced mine are standard and I know the kit is designed to fit the Mk4. Help!!!

Thanks :)

have you got the bearing between the spring and top mount?

the bearing is sandwiched between the 2 to allow the strut to rotate ie. steering ;)

Sorry yes my terminology might be slightly off in that explanation! I'm struggling to explain it well aha. The bottom half of the bearing, where there is a ring that sits on the flat shoulder at the outer edge of the plate. The ring is too wide to sit inside the top of the coil? so the coil doesn't sit flush on the underside of the bearing. If that makes more sense? lol

on the ones i fitted recently, one half seemed plastic and the other was a metal collar with an internal lip.

have you located the metal side into the top mount as i found this to fit and locate quite well when i first put the 2 together!
....but after a minute of thinking "how doies the spring fit on that???" i flipped the bearing over and sat the plastic side against the rubber top mount, leaving the metal collar facing away/down to which the spring locates too

Unfortunately the metal side down is the way it wont fit :( Is it worth trying it upside down then and locating the plastic side in the top of the coil? or will that end badly? :/

ooh....ok......was worth a mention.....

as there is nothing to locate the spring too.....yeah, that would result in the assembly collapsing i think..

i'd check you got the correct parts with both Seat and whoever supplied the coilover kit

No absolutely! Thanks for the replies :)

Well the lad I got them off had them on his Mk4, messaged him and he cant figure out why they wont just drop straight on to mine either! He sent me the link to the exact purchase he made on ebay when he first got them new. Everything detailed in the kit on that sellers page is present in the box he sent me so it's not like there's an adapter or anything i'm missing :s It's a proper headache!

You can see here, there are two metal rings that sit between the spring and the bearings metal plate - gold coloured bit

Ahh and do they have a wider inner diameter than the spring then? Because at the moment my spring just sits directly on the bearing plate?
