Torn between getting full coilovers, or shocks and springs to lower the ride height. I cant claim to be a fountain of knowledge on it, but what have people found is the best option? best brands to use for it?

As mentioned the APs are always a popular option and a good choice for the money. Weitec Hicon GTs are also worth a look.

Are AP's alright for dailey driving , people keep telling me coil overs are a hard ride ?
 
Was speaking to Guiness recently who has had a couple of setups on his car
I think he's pretty happy with the latest ones if you PM him or I have a set of Eibach coils for TDi fitment for sale on e-bay at the moment
 
Eibach Pro-Street's are very nice, composed, comfortable and the car is very nicely balanced.

Previously has 80mm springs and shocks on my polo which were very wollowy complared.

my mate has ta technix and I would say for the money they do the job but my god its like the shocks have been welded up!

:-o If I had the money I would rip your arm for the the Eibachs, but 'tis the season to be broke :cry: so I will be getting the coilovers in the new year. Will PM Guiness as suggested, cheers mate.

As long as you stick with a good quality kit then you'll be fine. The APs are a very good choice for the money and give a good ride quality whilst also improving the handling and stance.

i have 50mm shocks and springs...ride is pretty firm but i found it ok...looks pretty good too...just another option

The only worry with going down to that level for me would be ground clearance for the sump... from what I've read on here it can be an issue for the diesel engines for the sump to scrape when lowered? Any expansion/comments/suggestions on this welcome..

depending what you go i was all set to get shock and springs till i realised they they coilovers with adjustable damping and ride height, i have koni coilovers on mine with adjustable damping and is firm but overall to me better ride quality than standard shock and springs which use just not react quickly enough when goin over speed bumps which would just give me a HUGE JOLT. d2 i heard are good they're like 550 comes with adjustable damping and adjustable ride height control

I've had no problems on cupra tdi on AP's with some very hard driving, no sump scraping, but then im not down all way.
 
I'm going with a 40mm drop springs and shocks on my Cordy Vario. I live up a farm track and any lower would be asking for trouble. It seems the thing with coil overs is that you can set the car a lot lower but I personally would be forever tweaking them lol so am gonna avoid them.:)
