Evo service interval is 4500 miles or 6 months.
You're changing your oil almost as much as a highly strung Jap Turbo car... but each to their own...

I'm in a minority here as most on this board run an Arosa as there main car, and are fond of them.
My Arosa is purely a runaround, so I'd say I have a more objectional view.
It is completely standard; shocks, springs, wheels, tyres. I'm familiar with good setups and I can tell you the handling is not good.

I've only got my own to compare to , but I can only imagine you haven't driven many cars to say Arosas handle well.

Wow - thats a pretty strong statement honey
Many of the members on here have driven lots of other cars. I, for one, test drove at least 25 other cars before opting to buy my friends Arosa off of him. I have driven my car around the ring on 2 separate occasions with people in the passenger seat whom, have all commented that it handles well.

No, it's a pretty fair comment, but it's a reasonable handling car for it's intended audience.... "safe"

Ian's is lovely after we fitted the KW's & ARB, but stock they're not fun on narrow rims & by now very soggy suspension

With conservative driving, (thats 50mph, cruise control on, coasting down some hills), 80MPG is my very best. (Arosa 1.4TDI) Half of trip was motorway.

Similar driving on shorter trips say 40miles, I still get 65-68MPG.

Definitely MPG is 6-8 worse in winter due to cold fueling for first 20mins.

I have a Scanguage (google it, around £100) which is pretty accurate at measuring fuel consumption, and at 50MPH on a flat road , motorway for instance, & no head wind, the instant MPG is around 90 to 110. So I reckon on a longer motorway round trip more could be had.

I got into economy last summer when fuel prices rocketed, & the habit has stuck.

Sure if I give it some beans I can get economy down to 50-55

In fact flat out through the gears instant MPG is well below 20 MPG

The highest I have ever had out of my mk1 1.4 Auto is 38mpg, and that was driving like a saint on the motorway to Goodwood.

My average in 34/36mpg :( Car is always serviced on time and looked after.

Mpg is up to 29mpg at the last fill-up!

Service is well overdue, and short journeys are the norm at the moment, so we'll see how much it improves after those are sorted out :)

Well, no, not really...'love'!
Saying 'I imagine' is pretty vague.
If i had said 'you clearly know nothing', that would be strong, and I wouldn't say that.

And during those 'test' drives you learnt alot..?:headhurt:
What cars did you own before your Arosa?

Why would you take an Arosa around the Nurbergring?!
Nevermind, GreenGoddess, you're not reading the posts properly.
I'm talking about bog standard Arosa suspension, which yours clearly ain't.
It's all well being fond of a car, but you have to see a car for what it really is.

Someone with a reasonable view - thankyou!

I agree your comment about the handling of a standard arosa being awful. I have changed the suspension and wheels on my arosa which, has made a big difference. Are you doing your own service loops ?

I will be around the Bath area at the beginning of march if you need a hand with the other service work apart from the Cambelt.

Hi Mr Biscuit, My TDi has Cruise control too, have you fitted the VW stalk? I have one fitted to mine now, so its all nice and OEM standard. Great for motorway driving, although mine is usually set to a lot more than 50

I too have a scangauge, its great, although ive had to fiddle and set it according to the calculations i make when working out my MPG when i fill up. Once set its accurate.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to get high MPG though, or so i find. THe best i have had for a while was 69.9! Mostly it averages at about 55-60mpg. I find it hard to drive with eco in mind though.

My 1.0 averages 40MPG round the town, pretty good really.

Yes well i like to look after my cars, so why not.

For your information i have driven a lot of different type of cars, all sorts in fact, but then i dont have to prove myself on here! Im mearly saying for what it is, a sumpermini, it handles well, there is roll but it does grip nicely. Obviously there is better cars! Its not ment to be a sporty thing, its a sumpermini and does what i expect it to. Had i wanted a nicely set up sporty car, id have bought one! You come across like your obove eveyone else with your Evo! Not so

Haha, not at all, you brought my other car into it. You're just making assumptions

Ok, well lets just say that 1.4 auto Arosa's handling is rubbish.
However, the rest of the Arosa range is a pure drivers car ;)

Sorry i got a bit carried away there

Not a drivers car at all, but not bad for a supermini. There are far better superminis, but to be honest when i bought the arosas handling was last on my list of desirables.

Hi Cardaft

Ah yes we the founding fathers of Arosa cruise control.
Not got round to fitting the stalk yet, very lazy, & the thought of air bag etc puts me off.

69.9 MPG is pretty good, cant be much wrong there.

I do like the scanguage its a nice piece of kit, usually only 1or 2 out from calculated MPG, & its nice to be able to see other things like boost MAF, accurate speed, engine temp etc.

Out of interest, whats your instantaneous MPG @ 50 on a flat road, as I said mines 90-110

Just tripped over the 100k miles today, & driving faultlessly, apart from drivers door interior light switch, which failed last week, which I understand is not easy to fix.

Oh & £30 tax this year.

Great car, goes up hills better than my MX5 (in 5th)

Yes the removal of the steering wheel put me off too. Although i was using another heated window switch with the latch removed for my set button. It got quite annoying after trying to work the heated withdow with it a few times

Actually its not a bad job to remove the wheel, much easier than i thought it would be. So its all OEM standard now! :D

100K, your doing well, any issues in that time? Mine has done 60K miles, though its currently for sale!

Its an interesting bit of kit the scanguage, very handy. Have you got yours fitted into the dash somewhere?

I popped the Vag port plug out of the back of the ash tray, fed the wire behind the dash and removed the little slot abot the heater controls and put it in there. Much better than having wires everywhere! Although ive taken it out now and put the plug back in (just clips in and out) so its ready to sell.

Im not sure what the instant MPG is at 50, ill have to check that!

Oh, id forgotted about the £30 bit, i was still thinking it was 35! As if it wasnt cheap enough

I've got two small toggle switches for set & resume in a switch position in the lower center console, & find its ok to use.

No real issues with the car, I took possession @ 64K 2.5yrs old and it had been a driving instructors car, clutch had been replaced, but the muppet that did it had not tightened the drive shaft bolts properly, so they sheared after 3mths so £300 bill.

The scanguage I have velcro'd under the top of dash binnacle & find that the best place to see it without taking my eye off the road & still see other instruments easily, the cable I have routed thru dash & into the ODB port (popped out ) behind centre console , credit goes to you for posting this on club lupo as I followed your lead there.

Noo don't sell that TDi they're so much fun to drive, like a granny or like a demon.
Bought mine for 3k in 2005 don't reckon its lost much in value, they are sought after.

Great car I love it, plenty of grunt when you need it, 70 - 90 on the motorway is astonishing, you can pull in from the fast lane with some c*ck behind you, floor it, not many get past b4 you pull out again to pass the next car.

If I had to change cars I'd like an A2 ( tdi 90 sport of course)

Ah the £30 tax, cheap as chips, goes back up to £35 next year tho.

Tried Bio diesel late 2007, Don't go there, not good for Vag PD engines.
Two fuel filters & tank pump out later, back to good old fossil fuels.
To be fair 50:50 would probably be ok, I was running 95% but I'm not going there again.

I do a 40 mile round trip commute every day, set the cruise to 50 within 5 mins of commute start , its so relaxing, I overtake nothing, look at the views, listen to the radio, arrive relaxed, car & me don't get stressed.
Naturally come Friday trip home, & smelling the 1st beer of the day, it gets some beans.

Ah right, i only ever had the set button as a temp thing while i got the stalk. Its such a bonus having the stalk. Our Caravelle has the same stalk (hence i knew which stalk would fit the arosa, its the T4 caravelle one) so its so easy to use.

Someone mentioned to me, had i informed the insurance of my cruise control addition. I havent, it had not crossed my mind. I cant see it making much difference. Have you done this?

Ive had mine since 26K miles, when it was 4 years old (2002 car), its now on 60K. I was at one point doing 60-120 miles a day in it. It was perfect for that, i couldnt have thought of anything id rather be in, its great.

But i feel the need for a change now, i could do with a bigger car and so its for sale. Although as you say they are in demand, ive had a lot of interest already. Ive priced it at what i think its worth, it was a starting price and i expect to have to come down a little. But i have a set figure in my head, so it i dot get that it will be staying with me.

It does certainly have some grunt, keeps up with the outside laners very well. One thing with the scanguage is it stores your real time top speed! The pull on the motorway is great, i find its much quicker than other cars which i would asume should be faster than me.

Yes ive thought about an A2 and the 90 would be my choice too. Although i want something bigger than that, needs to have a boot!

They dont like Biofuel then! I had considered it but thought the PD might be a bit advanced to run on it. I know a few people run their SDis on that though.

Ive got to say mine is more Demon than granny, i dont often pootle about. When i do there is a noticable difference in economy, but then, i dont often drive with economy in mind

In my opinion, they are by far the best car in the city-car class, nothing of a similar size is as refined or comfortable at long distances. The Arosa is a much neater looking car than the Lupo, cheaper and a better spec too. You can't really go far wrong with an Arosa TDi :D

No, it has to be wired in. It does have the switches on the clutch and brake though, unlike other models.
