I suppose, since I've moaned about my Arosa so much in the past, I should also post in the forums when it's behaving itself. So... since getting the car back in mid-July, I've filled it up twice and economy is noticeably better. Two sensors and a fuel pump were replaced, as well as some electronic jiggery-pokery, and whatever's been done it's drinking less.
The first fill-up was after 343 miles of commuting back and forth, and I got 60.5 mpg. Admittedly, it's warmer than when I was measuring consumption previously (October-March) and the Glasgow Fair traffic is a bit lighter than normal, but that's still about 10% better. I don't think I ever got such good figures just from commuting.
More significant still was last week. I did a 50/50 split of motorway driving and commuting, and after 364 miles the low fuel light still wasn't on. Topped it up anyway and it only took about 24 litres, for
68.4 mpg. That's even better than my Glasgow-Oldham-Glasgow motorway marathon last year, and gives me hope that I can now get >70 mpg on a long run.
I'm still not sure I trust the little bugger though. My insurance is up in November, and after that I'll have some no-claims bonus again, and will be able to
shop around for something nicer (Auris T180 is top of the list right now). I've given the Arosa until then to convince me to keep it.
