right i definatly want more power ive got a gti 8v but dont know what to do and have a few ideas,

tune the 8v?
put a 16v in, but need to know what will need changing?
or put a 1.8 t engine in, how much in labour am i looking at?

any help is really appreicated thanks

There is definitely no point in putting a 16v in - you are far better off selling your car and simply buying a 16v. I think most people who have put a 1.8T in have done the bulk of the work themselves.

The easiest & cheapest way to go faster is to take weight out of the car. From my own personal experience - my chipped 8v running as per my sig was doing approx 9 seconds for 0-60 and 16.7 seconds for a qtr mile.

Following the complete strip out, these figures were down to 7.86s; 1/4m 16.08s - these are figures closer to a 16v than an 8v. OK, my strip out has been radical, but it shows that there are other ways than just 'more power' to go faster...

in addition to the camshaft from a golf gti mk2 I also ran my car partly stripped out with no sound deadening and only the 2 front seats. the weight loss had a bigger effect on perfomance than the camshaft did! it wasn't just improvements in acceleration, it would stop on a dime and went round corners like a legend! i've just strippedout my new 16v in the same way for the same reasons and it's had the same effect! only it's faster!!
