over winter?! wow i cant wait this long !
Probably ably to get over the spline issue with a different or a mix of both UJ's, im sure they would be easy to split and swap ends with the correct tools

The UJs are 120 quid plus vat Each if you buy them new and there non returnable :(

Or Try and find an Ibiza mk2 with no power steering being broken on eBay or somert. You can't lol

You can go first if ya like mucka :) can tell us all how to do it lol

Or tho I've just got my car running and checked it over to see what damage the NurburgRing has done and my rack or inner track rods are knocking badly so probS will happen sooner than winter. But I'd like to convert to mk3 VR6 subframe wishbones and arbs at the same time

Thats exactly what i thought with the uj. Use the lower half of it, but would both uj's be exactly the same size? Id imagine it would work though. Im sure there could be a few early 1.4 mk3 golfs breaking on the net. Iirc most of them came with manual steering? Correct me if im wrong. Im sure there is an easy way for it :)

Yeah they do mucka they just have a different UJ setup

The UJs are joined together with a bar so in effect one UJ not 2 lol

Only thing that worries me with using half the UJ. If you look at both UJ set ups the non power steering sits the opposite was round (judging by how the bolt together in the middle)

I wouldn't wanna bolt it all up and find it locks half way round or snaps lol or snaps the airbag/ESP ribbon attached to the stalks (not 100% ours have the ribbons can't remember lol)

Ah looked at the pics, manual bottom uj and normal top uj. youd need to check the protrusion of the column from the bulkhead, and the angle of it to the rack, if they are similar i dont see any issues, you will feel if its going to be notchy, test it with the slip ring off.

I guess it would just be trial and error until its done properly. Just obviously you would have to try it out before taking it on the road haha. I could maybe see what i have lying around in the way of uj's and send down if ive got the right parts? Cheaper than paying the £120 if you dont have to.

Id definately be up for going, its just the money and possible problems that stop me haha

Also you mentioned about the swap to the vr6 lower arm etc, is this just for widetrack? Are you swapping hubs too, changing to 5x100 or keeping original?
my mate has fitted a manual rack to his cupra. he said its from a mk3 golf! bolts straight on apparently!

That would be ace if it bolts straight on, be an easy swap if so

The ring is awesome well worth the money and cheaper than you think.

Room for 3 nights was 105 quid ferry (booked early) was about 60-70 quid.

I took 600 euros had 2 laps of the ring at 48euros and lent berg nearly 100 euros, food and drink etc and came home with 200 euros, think I used roughly 3 tanks of fuel.

I'm gunna check the VR parts today at work, if the VR ball joint fits our hubs ill keep our hubs. In fact I won't change hubs as I don't wanna have to change my brakes
