Cordy cutting out

Update:

Spent the afternoon changing the oil etc on the Cordy, also changed the fuel filter (pain in the rear end that was!)

When I'd done all that, I was having a listen to the engine, when I heard a hissing sound..... further listening found a vac pipe that connects to the inlet manifold had come off! Bingo :D

The other end of the pipe connects to a 'valve' on the fuel lines next to the fuel rail, hence the fuely smell!!!

Pipe is now reconnected :)

Fingers crossed it's cured the problem!

Seems like the vac pipe problem has only cured the lumpy idle, and NOT the cutting out problem :(

Went out to Asda tonight, and as I was slowing down for a roundabout, it went. Had no steering and no brakes, as it was on a slope. Had to almost stand on the pedal to stop just in time.

Next stop is the ignition coil i reckon. Pete, stick your's in the post for me will ya asap !! :D

Nope, the oil light stays off, just 2 red lights come on. Not sure which two though! Will keep an eye out next time it happens.

I hate it when it comes down to a 'chase the fault' situation, becuase you're either lucky and find it with the first thing you replace, or are unlucky and end up changing half a dozen sensors etc til you find the right one.

Luckily I should be able to blag most of the ones I'm likely to have to try from a certain friend on here who's removed the 1.6 from the front of his Cordy !!! ;) Hey Pete ;)

cutting out Cordy

My old Cordy used to cut out regularly just prior to the catalytic convertor failing.
In a 140 000 miles of motoring and 3 Cats later, i got to know the symptoms.
Could it be the Cat?
Symptoms include - complete loss of power but the engine still revs fine when de-clutched. Leave for a few minutes 5 - 10 minutes and hey presto it worked.
Just thought.

Cheers Pete :D

Fingers crossed it does the trick!

If not, the next stage will be the crank position sensor (is this the same as the 'knock sensor' ?!?)

Anyone got any idea where the crank position sensor is on the 1.6 AFT engine ?!?

Andy

pretty much behind the front engine mount

it's not teh same as the knock sensor.

hahaha, if its the coil off my old car that pete bought its nearly new that one.

after the coil was changed in my cordy it never cut out again, the revs just used to die when i got to round abouts and lights and things, and yeah started straight away again.
