Correct 1.4tdi fuel economy

Hi,

I have a 2003 1.4 TDI S Arosa and I was wondering what I should get out of a full tank, I can only get just over 300 miles out of a full tank city driving, is this normal as I was expecting more

From memory, the fuel tank is 8 gallons. I normally fuel mine up at approx 300 miles with 5.5 gallons, that equates to 54-57 mpg. According to your figures your car is only doing 37mpg! Try taking it on a motorway & compare the mpg. My daily journey is mostly motorway, anything from stop/start (M60) to cruising at 80mph & still returns good mpg.

Also try checking basic things like your tyre pressures.

Fuel tank size is 34 litres, I check the tyre pressure regularly.

A clean Air filter is also important for more MPG.

My fault I wasn't doing my calculations accurately. Filled the car to the click, set the trip to zero, then when I filled it to the click again divided the fuel put in by the mileage on the trip.

Gave a calculation of about 50mpg with mostly city driving which is much better. Thanks for all the helpful and friendly advice anyways.
