Well, just heard from the garage, apparently the turbo is stuffed. Thank **** it's still under warranty. It's a little bit worrying it's knackered after only 20k miles. They're ordering a new one first thing tomorrow, fingers crossed they can get one in before the end of the week. I desperately want it back for my hols next week.

Well, there's been another twist. I phoned yesterday to check when they were expecting the new turbo to arrive, to be told the turbo hadn't been ordered, since they now believe it's OK.

I don't know the full ins and outs, but it looks like some parameters that control the turbo were set incorrectly, which the new software decided it didn't like.

I was later asked whether the car had been 'chipped', (which I know I haven't) so I'm wondering if the previous owner had the car remapped, and the car wasn't returned back to the original map / settings when sold.

Any how, the garage did some live logging yesterday and believe the car to be good to go. It behaved on the way to work today, so fingers crossed again.

Hope it sorts itself out mate :)

Limp mode again this morning :censored:. This is starting to do my head in now.

Again, going up a slight incline, increased the throttle, car felt un-responsive - boost didn't kick in revs reached 3k then bing! coil light.

Garage still suspect it's a turbo issue, they've ordered a 'repair kit' - whatever that is and will attempt a 'repair' tomorrow. Anyone know what the repair kit might be? I'm a little bit dubious, the car's only 20k miles old, not sure I like the idea of a 'repaired' turbo.

I'd be asking for a new one Dave, no reason why they should repair it at this early stage in life, and sods law the repair is just to get it to the end of the warranty period.

Just a quick update - it might help someone else down the line.

Well I've had the car back for over a week now, and I'm glad to report that there's no sign of the original stutter, or any warning lights on the dash.

It looks like there were two unrelated problems with the car - the stuttering seems to have been fixed by the original software fix and the coil light was being brought on by a problem with the turbo actuator. Apparently the 'actuator diaphragm' was split, they replaced this part and all now seems well.
