if it's anything like most company policies nowadays they are likely to have a high excess on the insurance policies (keeps premiums low) so will pay for the repairs anyway

have to wait and see what happens on accessment really but as you are the victim it's up to them to make sure you are satisfied

they won't just wheel it off for scrap and send you a cheque - you'll get correspondence for ages yet

insurance companies are good at dragging heels as it means the owner becomes desperate and agitated to get it over with and usually accepts a 1st (crap) settlement offer so stand ya ground and be patient

hold out mate no matter how long the insurance di*k you about!!

Mine was written off when it could have been repaired but I didn't have anywhere to store it so took the money, I pushed back 3 (£950, £1,450 & 1,950) settlement figures and got £2,650 off Admiral 2 years back, alot of this was due 3 black 16V cupra sports up for sale at the time for about £3K it took 4 months and alot of phone calls and researching but was worth it!!

The thing that I really couldn't get over was Admiral were the cheapest by far on the Golf I bought with the proceeds and my current Ibiza after paying out on me..... go figure!!

I dont think you should worry Crezz...take the 'cash in loo' you get to keep the car, Youll get minimum £1500 pay out and the car dont get written off....only thing is they take the salvage value off the car.

some one hit my car at the start of this year 07/01/2008... my car was in the fixers from 17/01/2008, i had a golf GT sport 2.0 tdi (140bhp) from 17/01/2008 untill 22/4/2008.

it took that long for the insurance company to get him to pay out as he said it was my fault .

fortunately i took a fair few pics at the time and got a few witness statements / phone numbers later on. and i re - inacted the accident in the golf (but of course without the cars hitting each other) and sent all this info to the insurers.
it was obvious from the damage done to my car and his that i was stationary at the time, as if i was moving i would have been driving away from his car... [:@]

hope it dont take that long crezz

How can they write the car off for such minor damage???

If in their view the cost of repairing the car to the condition it was in pre-accident is more than the value of the car, it's in the insurers interests to write the car off - just keep on fighting to get it repaired and don't accept anything less - may be worth having a chat with a solicitor or even CAB to see where you stand legally on it

well a bit of an update...the bodyshop told me that it wouldnt be wrote off and sent the estimate through and was wainting on a reply from royal fail...then i recieved a text message saying hope your happy with your high car blah blah blah, we will collect this soon as your car has finished being repaired...

well today i recieved a phone call stating that the car has now been classed as a cat d write off...they didnt even ask me what i wanted to be done...then all they valued the car at was £900 regrdless of any cost thats been spent with or without recipts..the car is over 70 miles away and apparently the hire car is to be collected weather i have my car or not?

what the fubar????

so basically im being screwed over but im not finished yet, il keep you posted on the situations as it unfolds

well ive just emailed about 30 recipts of worth thats been done for them to re evaluate the car, also had to show them other private sales of the car, but by the looks of it its gone down as listed as cat d write off anyway..i thought that being cat d, i had the choice of what happens..oh well..at the end of the day if i only get £900 i can probably get a fair bit done fr that, would like to get more around £1500 and ill sort the work out myself...its still sad how they are treating the innocent party out of all this

Insurers look at it as what's best for their bottom line, not what's best for the person that's been affected by it - sad but true.

Kick up a fuss with the insurers and just keep on trying to get your case escalated until you reach someone that can actually do something!

i suppose we will soon see what they re value the car at, and if it comes back into being repairable they will do the work at where its too, if not they said that another cheque will be sent out for the difference from £900 if any...apparently the hire car cost is going up around £600 already plus the cost of the 280 mile round trip the recovery truck will of done after all this, this will be going on £200..so all of this as it stands has cost them £1700... they would of been better off giving me a cheque for a grand and let me sort out the damage

so in other words until 'YOU' agree the offer it's gonna cost ema shed load in hire car charges so they better get their arse in gear and sort you out :

1. a value that you accept and BE Stubborn as they are writing it off they have to make YOU happy to accept remember.

2. Allow you to keep the vehicle/salvage (i'm guessing you want to) but throw that in after the offer is decent as they will try to knock it back

3. time to turn into an annoying pain in the arse, call em back 3 times a day every day without fail and if you get a name keep asking for them for updates, be as annoying as you can but stay polite of course

4. remind them you have a decent expensive hire car which i gather is provided until the claim is settled so they need to shift a bit

5. Stand FIRM until you get what you want - remind both yourself and them it was parked up and you didn't cause or want all this grief

6. Any cheques you are sent - inform them you will return them registered post as they are insulting.

£1500 with the car back wouldn't be a bad target to aim at £300 on top for the grief worth a go too if they start to run you around a bit - and they will :censored:
