Cruise control on 20VT what is it like for MPG?

I am thinking of retrofitting cruise control to my 1.8VT FR, however I was wondering if the car driving its self at a steady rate would provide better fuel economy than my foot driving at a reasonably steady rate. I'm talking motorway driving generally keeping under 3000rpm (~ 70mph). I currently get around 43mpg if very steady on the M5, (the car has Revo stage 1).

I have cruise on my 20vt FR and I get about the same as you said (42-43)

Well worth it IMO.

I could prob get the same MPG without the CC but I can't be bothered to try, CC is so easy.

Thanks for that, sounds tempting, especially as I'll be driving to the nerbergring in September. I might be tempted to install it myself and save £200.

i know mines not a 20vt but its a definate recommended mod from me too. not just for maintaining mpg, but great for average speed traps through roadworks and whatnot.

as said you can do it by foot, but for long journeys its boring hard work.. get the cruise control set and all you gotta do is steer, indicate, and judge distances for overtaking without having to cancel the cc!!

Presumably you can buy cruise control units?? if so where from and how much do they cost??

Do they affect your insurance at all??

nope they dont sell kits for the ibiza. retro fitting is the only option, you have to make a wiring loom, and replace the indicator/wiper stalks with ones that have cc buttons.

my dad did mine, using the wiring diagram for a Polo, and stalks from a Skoda as theyre the same.
