is it a VAG thing? others seem ok, so it must be a problem. what do you do when pushing on i.e revs fly round in 2nd and so do you not keep it on boil into 3rd?

i've learnt to shift slower and ease the gear up with clutch down, at that point the revs are about 3k or below and no good, when a car next to me has gained distance!

No its fine unless, your near enough at the limiter and only sometime it gives a very slight "grr" going into third with super fast gear changes!
Most cars I've driven do this at some point.

i don't think the VAG gearbox on these cars are anywhere near as slick, smooth and reliable as the japanese friends, like celica, civic etc.

I have also been having this problem since i bought the car. Only when i give it death. It seems the syncro's arent as fast as your hand and left foot are able to change gear.

I thought this muct just be something i'd have to learn to live with
