CTR to PD130

Hey guys,
Ive recently decided i need to free up some money to return to university and so im very tempted to move from my 04 Civic type-R to either a 130 sport, FR or Cupra. Having been in the Ibiza TDI 110 sport (before the 02 model) a few years back i instantly thought Seat when deciding to go with a diesel. My main concern is going from 197bhp with no torque to 130bhp with loads more torque. I do enjoy the high reving of the civic but not all the time and the lack of torque is annoying me.

My question is has anybody gone from something like the type-r to a diesel and has the missing the extra BHP been annoying? I am under the impression though that the mass of torque would make you think the car is accelerating harder and so the power won't be as much of an issue

I am swaying more to the sport as if i did modify it i would have a more stealth car as one of the annoying points in the civic is everybody wants to race although i believe the sport doesn't come with traction control which won't help if i put more power through the wheels?

Depending how much cash you have I would go for a ibiza cupra tdi. 160 bhp. Easy remap to 190-200 and then you can go past type r`s fairly easily. Mine is currently pushing out 450nm. Thats after a milltek and sachs uprated clutch. If money is a lil tighter the 130 sport/fr are good aswell. They remap to around 170 but may need a FMIC and clutch but they fly aswell. I know how you feel mate, just sold my Clio 182 Trophy this morning and picking up my Leon Cupra 150 TDi next week sometime. It will take a few miles to get into the TDi way of driving.

I swapped a remapped Focus ST running around 270bhp for an Ibiza Cupra TDI and even though there are times when I notice the missing 100bhp it's fine in normal day to day use.

definatly go for an fr or cupra CTR's are really sporty looking cars if you went or a sport you would be looking at it saying does't look as nice as my civic but if you go for cupra or fr looks just as sporty, performance wise if you do a few little mods and a re-mapo you will beat a CTR anyway

Maybe not on the same scale at the civic, but i got rid of a fiesta ST for my ibiza fr, at first i did fell a bit of a change, less revvy engine and didnt sound as well but it was the right choice and after a few little mods, like the map and the mufflerectomy (removal of back box to straight through pipe) i wouldent swap my ibiza as it leave the little fiesta and can give the civic a good run for its money. not bad for a dirty diesel.

What kind of BHP are you guys looking at to match or even beat a civic type-R in the TDI's? I would of thought even slightly less power than the type-r's 197bhp would annoy a civic owner as the TDI's have stupid amounts of torque and i will admit i have been caught out a fair few times by some diesels which on paper the civic should be quicker than

I had a little play with a New TypeR a few days ago on an empty stretch of private road. He started ahead of me and i stuck with him (even gained on him in 4th) up to 120 then he pulled away. I think if we started side by side, i would have had him up to 100 then he would have left me after 120. Left me smilling even though i couldn't take him.

theres a few 180bhp tdi sports running around that have managed 14.7-14.8 sec 1/4 miles

one had just a map on and exhaust the other ones had maps and Front mount intercoolers to help with the heat soak...

similiar times to type R's aren't they?

You just happened to come across a Type-R on a "private road" which you could get up to 120mph then did you? Just say you were being stupid and racing on a motorway or similar instead of this false private road crap.

LOL, the new shape isn't a real type-R i wouldn't of bothered with it. Although its supposedly the same performance its heavier then the EP3 however it has been proved that the extra weight hasn't really made any difference. It's just that it defeats the whole point of the Honda racing philosophy "less weight go faster".

I have found an FR for £7.5k with 39k on the clock at a local stealers. Is this ok mileage for a diesel engine?

That mileage is fine. People say that VAG diesels aren't run in properly in they've done well over 60k.

Well as i'm in the Aur Forcs and have |Access to a number of Runways, why would i need to say i was on a motorway if i wasn't?

One of the things I liked about my Sport was it's relatively plain looks, but remapped it was a very quick car that could surprise many...

The Sport 130 was originally the quickest of the lineup. Then along came the FR (130) and the Cupra (160), around which point the Sport was demoted to 100bhp.
The Sport 130s did have traction control, as does the FR. The Cupra goes a stage further and has ESP.

If you're looking to save money, then the earlier (03/04) 130 Sports can be had for good money, and are only insurance group 7.

I sold my '03 130 Sport (remapped from new) in early 2006 with 80k miles on it, and the engine was still running and sounding like new. Still getting best part of 50mpg, and didn't use any oil.
You just need to check for service history, as it's very important this has been done and the correct PD-specific oil has been used.

I now have a Passat 130 on 135k miles

Honda's idea was weigh less go faster but the FN2 weighs more and goes no quicker, where as ALL other latest hot hatches the Leon, Astra VXR, Megane etc etc are all quicker and in the 200 BHP zone. I say its not a real type-r because it's lost its rawness power delivery something which many CTR owners agree and the fact it comes with all these new luxuries that contribute to car weight. Plus it looks s**t
