Hi peeps,

I am going to look at one of these tomorrow. Can someone give me any advice/infomation for the car through experience? Are they easy to/worth modying, i.e Coilovers, re-map and prices.

Hope to hear back!

Chizzzz

Really? How much does the likes of a re-map cost? What does the diesel engine sound like after these kind of mods have been done? Sorry for 'question' time, but im looking for a car that i can 'make my own', to be fairly quick and look nice! And the economic qualities are a bonus! cheers

Remap costs about £300 depending where you go. A remap wont actually make the sound any different, full exhaust system might make it sound a bit better but still not as good as a petrol. Just depends if it bothers you really..

Oh right, Tractor-ish sound? or modern diesel? This is the first car that im interested in modding myself. My others ive bought already modded. Therefore i dont know an awful amount about this sort of thing. Coilovers, decent set: £400ish? When getting them fitted, do you literally tell/show the garage how low you want to go, and they sort it? I know petrol engines you would have an induction kit and dump valve, are there equivilents for diesels? I kno of a garage near my home that specailises in VW and Audi's, so if i do buy the car, i will be paying them a visit early new year! :)

Cheers for your help, much appreciated!

Yeah its kinda tractor-ish.. not the worst out there though. The new CR diesel engines are much quieter. No worries, everyones got to learn somewhere! Im sure everyone on here will give you advice if they can :)

Yeah a decent set is around £400, speak to some of the traders on here and see what they can offer - some (or maybe all?) give a discount to SCN members! Im guessing you would tell them how low you want it, but its easy enough to sort it yourself. You could go for a performance panel filter, but I dont think many of us diesel guys have a cone as such. Dump valves... steer well clear on a diesel. No point, and will more than likely do more harm than good!

No problem mate, fire away anymore questions you have and I'll try help if I know the answer :p

Tidy mate, cheers for that. Yeah, the one im going to look at, i fink has already been re-mapped, are there different re-maps available like chips? Are there any signs of the re-map not being done properly? And boost settings??

Yeah there are different maps, depends what company done it. They obviously produce different figures but I'd imagine you'd be looking about the 200bhp mark. If the clutch is the same as the FR (which I think it is but not 100%) then those are rated to 300lb/ft torque, so I'd check the clutch before buying, especially if its remapped already. Yeah the car would run lumpy if the map isnt done correctly, turbo might spool up late etc. Boost settings, I have no idea. Best to ask in the TDi Tuning area mate :)

word of warning doe mate depending on who maps it, might wana get upradted clutch n flywheel, or have it torque limited in 1st n 2nd gear gear to spare the clutch, on the standard map its torque limited but some tuners will remove this better for acceleratng in 1st n 2nd gear but will destroy ur clutch over time if abused
