I started a similar thread to this a couple of months back, however, at the time I seemed to be the only one. Since then a few others have made similar comments in other threads (i've copied and pasted below, I hope you guys don't mind) so i'm hoping a new thread might have a better chance of collating the information and potentially finding a fix.

There definitely seems to be an issue in the Cupra 280 (possibly only impacting manual boxes?) with a flat spot when between 2-3000 revs. I think there are some other minor flats spots outside of this range but they are hard to nail down as they come and go.

"Curious to know if anyone else has experienced this, there's a definite lumpy patch in the mapping at part throttle between 2-3000 revs. It's more noticeable in Comfort."

Nick
"The flat spot between 2000-3000 rpm is there in all modes but not always noticeable."

kazand
"And I thought it was just me ...... "

So with those guys and me that makes 4 of us who have noticed something isn't quite right.

Can anyone else that has felt similar please join the thread and add your experiences. Also, can the guys above confirm if they are manual or DSG. Thanks

Not that i have a Mk3, but it might be useful to describe under what load you experience the issue, i.e. light load/cruise or heavier load/acceleration, worse up hill? Worse in a lower or higher gear etc.?

I'm not sure about the other guys but for me there doesn't seem to be any consistency to it. Sometimes it's really pronounced and almost makes the car jerk enough for a passenger to feel it, other times you can barely notice it.

I have tried to keep an eye on it with different weather and engine oil temp but haven't been able to find a pattern yet. It's most noticeable on perfectly smooth roads as it isn't hidden by the 19's bouncing around.

The load doesn't seem to make a difference either.

In terms of size, it is quite small, although sometimes it feels like it happens 2 or 3 times as the revs go up.

I've got some jerkiness when I am taking it easy changing from 1st to 2nd, thought it was me just getting used to petrol from a diesel but it still does it. Is that the flat spot you mention?

I think that's an associated problem, 2 of the guys I mentioned above have talked about similar in another thread. I would agreed accelerating in 1st and 2nd is never a smooth experience so it wouldn't be surprisingly if they were related.

I've tried all of them for a few tanks each, currently using Tesco 99 ron. Up to 2800 miles so had plenty of time for the ECU to adjust.
Same here. Its not a big flat spot, but jerky particularly when changing from 1st to 2nd. Appears to be worse at low/light throttle.

I was going to say I am not experiencing this however reading that R post it reminded me of something which I checked on the way to work. I do have some loss of power, mostly in sport and not as much in ECO. Only if im gunning it but change at 4k so it drops near 3k, first thought it was my clutch but now I think its boost related, hoping the DV+ makes a difference and will report back when its fitted.

Regarding RON, I have said before on gtiforum that when using 95 ron I seem to pull stronger, but I now believe this is because I do not suffer from this flat spot using lower ron petrol, slower, but smoother.

Just to note I dont get a flat spot if in gear, this only occurs when changing gear in those rev ranges. And I am very mapped, but I will mention this to shark and see what they say.

DSG's - You may have this issue but the way you go through the gears you just may not notice.

I've never noticed any flat spots myself. Manual 280 and it normally drinks tesco momentum apart from a couple of fills where I've put 95 in. Mind you I'm progressive with the throttle until above those kinds of revs (for traction reasons).

I use momentum in mine, and have always run an individual profile since new (apart from Cupra mode for fun). This morning I tried comfort instead and I didn't really notice the flat spot I see in my individual profile. So I'm going to switch to comfort for town driving, Cupra for fun and individual for long runs where I have ECO set up. I do wonder if it's a characteristic of Eco?

I don't know Rob, I notice it more in sport, less in normal and barely in eco, yet the only thing that should change is the throttle response. It slightly reminds me of when I stuck a stupid sprint booster on my fr, could it be too much throttle at once for the car to take, if you know what I mean
