Cupra 300 Tyres

2018 Cupra 300 DSG has Sumitomo HTR Z5 tyres on the front and even more budget tyres on the rear, this is how it was from the dealer.

Should I bother with changing the fronts to some like the Eagle F1 or PS4s or the like for the front? As I understand I should notice the difference from reviews.

I'd get the HTR Z5 on the back at least so wouldn't be a total waste. The rears are appear to be around £40/50 per tyre job.

The fact that you’re asking the question on here means that you probably already know what the answer will be.

Personally, I would swap all 4. The Michelins or Goodyears are both very good tyres, but there is more of a bias on here for the PS4S.

In addition, I would swap the rear tyres over first if you can only afford to swap 2 at this time, especially if FWD. Far easier to control loss of traction from the front wheels under steering than the rear over steering.

I totally agree with Black-Sheep above. You can't cheap out on tyres with a Cupra.

I personally have top end Goodyears on mine and to be honest I think they're better than than the PS4S tyres for me. They're also a few quid cheaper.

You should have the better tyres on the rear.

Nothing worse than the rear stepping out mid corner

I would change all 4

Bin the lot. I know of someone who put a cheap Chinese tyre on his 370Z because he was selling it. Next day, it let go on the M6 and put him into a concrete barrier. They’re not called ditch finders for nothing.

Sounds like we are in agreement that at least the rears need changing. Hopefully this fixes the annoying tyre noise I hear at around 50-60mph. Sounds like extra noise on top of tyre noise though. I thought wheel bearing but no noise when turning.

Some cheapo tyres give off a hell of a racket

I used to get noise off the PS4Ss I had in my last car - it was due to the change in road surface. I thought the same as you initially!

On a similar note I'm just going to rid myself of some Pirellis I've currently got on the front of my 290 which are the originals and almost die for changing. I've got two Ps4 on the back.

Looking at the moment I'm seeing Pilot Sport 5's as well as 4's and Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric 5. I know the Goodyears are highly rated and I'm fancying them, what are the Pilot Sport 5's like?

I have the pilot sport 5's zero issues with them. Plus they look real cool if thats your thing

My car is not a performance car but i have never been left wanting with them.

Capable tyre for sure. Mileage is also ment to be good on Michelin compared to other premium brands. They usually win the longevity tests

Personally I would go with the Eagle Asymetrics over PS4's having used both

They Eagles feel a better all round tyre, bit quieter and a bit more comfort. The PS4 are awesome when it is nice and warm but I find cannot deliver grip if its cold and damp (I live in Manchester so this is often the case)

Anything is better than cheap tyres though.

On my second set of Goodyear eagle assymatric 5s. Cant fault them. Plenty of grip in the wet and dry. I managed to get nearly 18000miles out of the fronts, admittedly my daily commute is 40 miles of dual carriageway but still impressed with how long they lasted.

Better grip and longevity than other premium makes
