I went for an st for this very reason, to future proof it against any little me’s turning up one day. Plus in the st the boot shelf can come out and you have quite a cavernous space for hols, days out, doggy, etc.

That brings back some very happy memories - I passed my driving test in a Y reg 1983 Escort 1.6 Ghia! Elliott School of Motoring.......and weird that 20 years later, (yesterday by date) I met and married my wife, who's maiden name was Elliott too, even spelt the same way

Well, that X reg Ford Escort Ghia 1.6 5 door - our first brand new car, was a stocked car, that came with wide low profile tyre size option 175/70 no less!!
As it came without a rear wiper, so I bought a genuine Ford rear rear wiper kit for it and fitted it over the Christmas break - Santa brought it! It was more than a bit worrying measuring up the exact correct spot to drill a big hole in the rear hatch lid of a 6 month old car!! Measured many times, looked at the spot where to drill, went back into the house and have a cup of tea, repeat a few times before getting brave enough to "just do it", it all worked out very well, the worry was that while there was no hole on the rear hatch, there were punched out holes on the inner frame where the motor etc was mounted, so not much scope for errors!

Yep, been there, done that. Retrofitted a genuine rear wiper kit to my B reg Escort 1.3 Laser 2. Great when wiring is already there, it was just drill, bolt on, plug in and it worked with no coding....happy days lol

Congratulations on the new arrival. I have made it work and apart from long weekends which can be a squeeze no issues with my little one. In fact my pram actually fits better in the cupra than in my mk7 golf with the boot floor even fully down.
