Just a word of caution people, a guy i work with had this done 9 months ago. His turbo has just completely destroyed itself and possibly taken the engine with it as some of the bits from the turbo have gone in the inlet system.

SEAT and an independent VW specialist have said the turbo failed due to lack of pressure in the exhaust system.

SEAT have voided his warranty and he is looking at 6K to have a new engine and turbo from SEAT. Last time I spoke to him he was looking around for an alternative.

I am not trying to upset anyone here but I would feel bad myself if this happend to anyone here and I hadn't warned anyone when I had the chance.

Sounds like SEAT are just looking for a way out of paying £6k.

i'm sure seat would probably try to use this as an excuse for voiding a warranty, but as said above removing the silencer doesn't make any difference to back pressure. the standard silencer set up is just a pipe with a resonator box around it, removing it just involves replacing this with a pipe of the same diameter, with no box around it.

only way you'd change the pressure is if you used a larger diameter pipe, included a decat/sports cat and a bigger downpipe.

I am not saying its right or wrong etc I am just stating whats happend to a friend of mine. It may never happen to anyone on there.

The turbo basically over heated, I am not a technician so I am just going on what he has told me.

SEAT warranty does state in the T&C's that any change to the cars manufactured figures (including noise) and/or changing of parts for non OEM (quality and specification) will void the warranty of any associated parts.

Like I said I am not saying do it or do not do it nor an I am saying its right ot wrong. I am just sharing an experience and knowledge, which is what i thought these forums were all about?

Hey guys :) finally took the plunge on Wednesday this week to have the middle silencer on my TSI 150 FR removed and I'm very glad I did :D makes such a nice noise now even when your just cruising, but when you hammer it, it pops and bangs up through the gears with the little dsg darts aswell xD lol.

Ill try and get some videos of it up at some point for other users to use as reference aswell for the noise.

I will say I've noticed the turbo and supercharger noises more and that it seems to have a bit more responsiveness aswell since its been done although that could be a placebo, but does seem that way.

For the user sorry forgot to check your name :( who was asking what it looks like ill take a photo of mine in the garage to show you what its like but as others have said you can't miss it, its bigger than my old DS3's middlessilencer which is in the garage aswell.

Hey mate sorry for the late reply :). I got it removed at a place in Chester called hoole exhausts I think they have a longlife trained exhaust guy there and he did a good job and did it for £40 so was well chuffed :D.

That's cool its a small world xD I wondered if whoever owned that boc was on here :).

If you free later on today or in the week I could pop and show you the work , tone etc if you've not seen it in person before.

I only live around the corner at Kendal drive :)

Anybody have any links for some tailpipe trim that look like the milltek? Iv been looking and most are straight pieces of pipe that wouldnt work as the 2 drinking straws that the boc has from standard are pointing downward. Andbody already fitted some and can recomend any?

Why dosnt that suprise me about milltek. I was going to go to powerflow to get my silencer removed so i may aswell ask them make me some tail pipes up too. But iv got a feeling it may start to get expensive and he will want to just do me a full system. Any ideas on a price just for the tail pipe section? Cant immagine it being more that £60 or so tbh.

What sort of places 'offer' this service if you like.

Places like F1 Autocentres or Standalone branches.

Etc.

Thanks

Mines took about 15min at most. It's basically a case of chop the old pipe out. Weld the new bit in. Nothing fancy, pikey spec at its best :p
