Cupra Fr 150

Just a few questions. I'm new to the forum.

My brother's just about to buy the stated car above. It's an 04 plate with 59 on the clock. Just wondering when the timing belt needs to be done? He needs to ask the usual questions, service history, owners etc.

Any other problems to worry about this car. I'm in love with it but unfortunately don't have the funds, otherwise i'd buy it. How does the car run in general, anything he needs to look out for thats going to cost him money? lol.

Your help will be appreciated, Thanks.

Well there is a sticky with General problems with Leon's for example wet footwells however these are few and far between. They are very reliable solid cars and amazing value for money.

Welcome to SeatCupra.net you will find or your brother will that this is quite an informative site! :)

The cambelt needs to be checked initially at 60k and every 10k miles from then on, until it needs going. I would highly recommend asking the dealer (assuming it's not a private sale?) to do the cambelt as part of the deal.

Also, when the cambelt is being removed, get them to fit the brass water pump impellors, as the standard ones could, if you're unlucky, break and cause the car to overheat. It's not a common problem, but it does happen. The brass verison stops this :)

As said it should be checked around 60k and get the water pump done at the same time.

Just so you are clear it is either Cupra TDi or FR TDi (both 150bhp)

On an 04 it will be a Cupra TDI, only difference between the two is the badges/seat pattern/grey wing mirrors on an FR and the alloys :)

I would have the cam belt done at 60k. They are starting to get a touch slack really by this mileage. The cost of a cambelt change is insignifacant compared to the cost of an engine failure caused by a snapped belt.

Many people on here have run all forms of Leons and Toledos well over 100k with very little problems. My 110 Toledo has done 80,000 fault free (touch wood) miles now and still feels very fresh.

60k is considered just run in on the VAG TDI lumps ;) they go from strength to strength ;)
