Hi guys,

Regretfully I've had to part with my K1.
Aggravated burglary to try and pinch my pride & joy was "The straw that broke the camel's back!"
I won't be going into detail about the raid but lets say that 2 weeks after my wife gave birth it was the last thing we needed or expected.

Question is, will I be able to live with an FR170 Facelift after owning a near SUPERCAR?? That's what I'm "toying" with..

The K1 was my pride & joy and boy did it attract attention; every traffic light, junction, roundabout, people were looking, admiring its sheer beauty..
Never ever have I been so in love with a piece of metal..

Everyone seems to hate the new facelift but I reckon there are loads of plus points, the rear, the new toys etc, should I walk away and go for something totally different or risk a FR170??

Don't tell my the FR170 won't be as quick as a REVO'd K1 with full Milltek TBE or will it - LOL?

Opinions?

Well you obviously like the new Leon, and also the facelift so i dont think you're going mind the looks of the FR etc

The main issue is the 300+ horsepower down to the 170. Will you alway be comparing it to the K1 as its basically the same car?? When if you bought a different car with 170 brake you are less like to compare it

If you plan to up the power of the FR then this may not be such an issue.

I have just traded in my cupra for a fr tdi (not the facelifted one) I had to change as I recently moved further away from work and the cupra liked a drink. To be honset the fr is a good car it pulls well in the mid range and you get excellent economy from it. But there is no point kidding yourself on about the speed, the pull up at the higer end of the speedo is nothing compared with the cupra. I cant comment on what its like with a remap as that is yet to come. In summary 2 very different prospects but you wont be too dissappointed with the diesel.

why not just get a standard Cupra?
no body kit , just debadge it if you that worried , will look the same as an FR??
or if you that worried just put FR diesel badges on it.

dont let scum put you off having luxaries mate.

my drivers side window got smashed last night , nothing taken , and not on the scale of yours but i am not going to loose sleep worying what will happen next.

its random and we were the unlucky ones but it happens same as car accidents , you cant not drive cause you think you might have an accident.
i would very much doubt they would strike in the same place twice for your next car unless you bought a porsche or something.

Sorry to hear about the hassle you had, people like this should be strung up by the testicles..[:@]

any way to your question, I thought the facelift looked a bit ropey in the pics but saw one the other day at the stealers (black fr170) and it looked awesome, even the interior looked a million miles better in the flesh...

get the 170 and bluefin it...you'll love the torque.....:D

Sorry to hear of your woes, these no mark low life need stringing up.

The one thing I like about my TFSI FR DSG, which is factory standard apart from a Cupra R Grill and a Battery Cover, is it's "stealth" look.
I am well happy with it and about 30-32 MPG.

No badges on front, just the "TFSI" on the side as you pass and the discrete "FR" on the back for the "passee" to ponder on.

The car does not particulalrly draw attention to itself, apart from badges, so hopefully potential vandals and light fingered low life pass it by.
That's my theory anyway, although I do live off the beaten track too!

Seremotors has had his taken as well there is a thread for it. Sorry to hear about the attempted theft, a std cupra is a lot less noticeable than a kitted up K1 so might be the way to go. Though the diesel will hold it's value better.

How Do?

Ive just got rid of my Cupra R and gone for an FR170, this was a hard decision and one im regretting already. I had to swop due to a change in circumstances ie a new baby.

Ive not had the FR170 a week yet and although im enjoying a newer car with new gadgets if your after the thrill of power or acceleration then there is no comparison. You will be disappointed.

On the Attempt Burglary, where I live in West Yorkshire the Leon has become the new vehicle to be used in crime. Gone are the days of the scubbies, unfortunaltely its all Leons esp ones with the BTCC bodykit. Take care and precautions with your pride and joys

Enjoy

Interesting thread, let us know what you decide, as I'm in a similar position: Cupra or FR TDi
Sorry to hear about the burglary, any more details you can share about it? If you do go for the Cupra again, I would avoid the aero/K1 bumpers maybe.

Why buy another Leon mate? An FR and a Cupra look all but identical.

If you want a quick diesel, and a change, the Aurus D4D is a fair old machine too :)

Like someone above said why not just get a standard cupra without the bodykit and not in white or yellow and then you will get left alone... you can map it the same as the K1 so just as much fun but none of the attention.

Thats what I would do - would look miles better at the same time :clown::cartman:

I concur. I've just benefited from this unexplainable and bizarre obsession people have with the aero kit by getting a new front and rear FR bumper for my car for £40 from a Seat dealer when I only wanted a rear one! (for a scrape someone did whilst my car was in the car park) :D

Hey Mike.
FR tdi pulls well but i think you maybe need a change after that hole nightmare. You might get in the FR every day and wish it was the Cupra. Glad ur all ok tho.

y not keep it and wait for the ***** with a bat or weapon n **** em over i wouldnt part with owt id worked hard for cos ov ******s like that otherwise whats the point in having nice stuff know what i mean ;)

get a plain old audi a3 2.0t and just go stage 2 plus for near 290hp and remain conspicious.

Edit

Inferi blac k non body kitted cupras dont stand out too much, and blend into the background pretty well.
