I have a 05 plate Leon fr mk1 with the pd150 engine, all I've had done to it (engine wise) is the exhaust which is a cat back done by infinity exhausts and a remap, done by ********! The printout gave me 196bhp and 236ft/lb torque however the clutch is starting to struggle, did a 230 mile round trip the other day and did about 70-80mph the whole way and averaged 55mpg, but around town it's impressive how fast it is! (No smoke no poke) but mpg is compromised and I only average 35-40 when blasting round town! Overall I'm well pleased with my FR!

If your journey is 80 miles a day its a no brainer to go for a diesel, it will do double the MPG of a cupra R. You could argue that what you would save in fuel costs might be nearly enough to buy and run a cupra R as a weekend motor.

That would be about 2778 litres a year @30mpg = £3165 approx in petrol
and 1918 @45mpg = £2109 approx in diesel

30mpg is drivng like miss daisy in a petrol.
45mpg is foot to the floor in a diesel. 60mpg is driving like missy daisy in a diesel.

And driving foot to the floor in a diesel gives the same acceleration as driving like miss daisy in a petrol :banned:

Iv had my down to around 12mpg during heavy right foot action and struggle to even get 175miles to a tank now iv gone hybrid, before I regularly got 300miles to a tank.

That's one hell of a drop! What's the difference between them both? i.e was it worth the change? Power increase what you was expecting? Thanks for feed back as I'm looking at the ko3 hybrid to replace 96,000 mile turbo. Not the same I know but its feed back all the same.

Also to the op...I went with the cupra not the r. just because of price and such high mileage on these r cars and if there low mileage it's going for silly money.
Cupra is a cheaper option and you can always get an r lump rebuilds quite cheap and other parts from the local scrapyard.

Mine is Y Reg 2001 "blue" 96,000 on the clock with massive service history in normal for year condition and one owner from new for........£400.
Look about, offer low, hold out, when they drop the price...pass on it and they will want to give it to you. If not move no but DONT pay too much for cupra.

I did feel bad when I passed him the cash but that all went away when that turbo kicked in lol

Diesel just doesn't come into it.

Also looking for parts if anyone has them? From rods to back box I'm interested in all that works/fits auq. Yes I cheaped out on the car but I don't expect parts to be cheap.
Many thanks to all.

That was off the top of my head. Do the sums for me on the official numbers - 32 and 52.

Driving like miss daisy will get you 38-40 in the petrol. Even thrashing it won't get you below 28 or 29 in my experience.

Lots of other factors too - on a cold morning you're going to driving for an extra 5 minutes with rubbish MPG with the diesel

how do you manage 70mpg on the motorway???

Best I have had is 56mpg, and that driving like a granny and keeping below 70mph

Got the same dilemma myself, really would like a cupra r but with it being my everyday car the sensible in me is telling me to get the fr+ and stick brembos and 18s on it

Had both my LC and MKIV Golf PD130 for a while which is a reasonable comparison. Leon averages about 32mpg with a fair mix of town and country driving and fair mix of hooning and cruising. Golf gets about 55mpg average with similar driving conditions.

By todays standards the 1.8T is an old fashioned engine and is fairly thristy compared to modern equivalents. The 1.9tdi is also a bit old hat but still measures up pretty well on the mpg front to modern ones.

They are two different cars though so it really depends what you want / can afford. If the fuel cost is an issue then get the diesel. Both are quick cars but the LCR will be quicker and has the benefit of better suspension / handling. Diesel one will probably be more expensive to buy but will probably hold its value a bit better.

Wasn't really expecting the fuel economy to be so bad, but when the car is running serious grunt that has to be accepted really. It was definitely worth it, would never go back to Revo stage 2 power, I smile everytime, when I destroy 197hp type R's and bmw M3's, they don't know what's hit them. Power wise I was expecting more, but when the engine is fully bedded in, with a decat pipe, should be around the 375hp mark. Also all the work was done on 88000 miles and was told the engine was in great condition when stripped down.

True, but the MkVII Golf R does about the same MPG as the 1.8T BAM. So you're just paying the same in running costs to run less horsepower in effect.

I had a similar dilemma, Cupra or tdi FR.
In the end bought a Golf tdi with gtb turbo etc so running more power then a Cupra R and get 50 mpg on average.
There is Tdi Cupra in the classifieds running 280bhp worth a thought.

i,ve got a diesel leon and i,m getting 36 or 37 or 41 around town and 65 on motorway but getting 65 on motorway is taking it easy .this is the second diesel i have had 36 or 37 or 41 around town i used to get 38 from a 20 year old audi 2.8v6 petrol and 25 or 26 around town that had 172.000 plus mileage. i am also looking to change to a cupra petrol turbo.currently 110 leon tdi 200.000 miles plus
