Cupra shopping tomorrow, 280 or 290?

Been considering getting a Cupra since I got the 184 FR in July, and have been watching a few over the last few months. There are 2 that I've watched come down in price, and want to go and view tomorrow.
Both from a main dealer, so come with 12 months warranty, fsh etc.
Question is, do I go and look at the slightly cheaper 280, or the more local 290?

Aside from the 10bhp and colour difference, are there any other differences? Lots of red ones at the lower price end, were these a free colour whereas grey was a cost option?

Also, anyone want to buy an FR 184 ST?! Been in the classifieds for a while and no takers. I know I'm going to get an offensive p/x offer on it tomorrow!

Cheers.

it all depends on affordability and what you want. personally I can't see much difference apart from exhaust note. Which I sorted for 60 quid with a res delete. or save the money get a 280 and mod it :)

Had a manual 280 SC for three years. The red was the default colour.

Mine is also a 65 plate. The later models like the one in the ad can come with "full link" this allows for mirror link, car play and AA.

That said mine required activation at a cost and replacement hardware. So worth checking if you are interested in that feature. The earlier models may have an older & smaller infotainment unit and won't support full link.

The 290's should be ok though.

Other than that the exhaust note, which has already been mentioned. If you're looking to mod this is less of an issue.

It's been a good car and apart from Obd11 tweaks has been kept stock. For me my only real gripe is the exhaust.

I would certainly consider test driving both a manual and a DSG if you haven't already. Personally I don't think I'll be going back to a manual again.

Thanks for the replies.

Affordability isn't an issue, I will p/x the FR which I own outright, and will pay the remaining balance outright too.

Dieselface, the 280 is actually your old car? You owned it from new?

Does the newer sat nav and software come on the cars with the aux port and USB in the centre console? When I was looking for an FR back in summer I made sure I got one with the USB port in the centre.

Yes the 280 is my old car.

Owned from new (factory order) from Sept 15 until July 18 - it was VT'd and handed over to BCA in July.

"Few" details for you -

Ordered 31st May 2015, build week 31 - It's a model year 16 unit with the following "options" (as they were at the time).

* Black line pack - rear window side finns, rear letters in black and black painted alloys

* Winter pack

* Red - this wasn't actually free at the time the solid white was the free. The red was 250 quid but became the free colour in Q2 of that year

* Full link - As this is a MY16 car it's got MIB2 head unit and full link is activated (cost option at the time). USB in centre console etc.

ODB11 mods - Sound actuator has been disabled, rear DRL'S enabled. Maybe the recieving dealer has reflashed this but seriously doubt it!

Service history - Car was serviced 1st and 2nd year at Seat Pulman Sunderland. There's been no warranty work or claims on the vehicle.

It ran shell V-power since day one.

One month after purchase the car was new car detailed and after 18 months the car received a top-up detail. Some photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LFTYkeZiekDUZLxC6
Obviously can't state it's current condition as it's been sat about for a number of months now!

It should still have 4x Michelin PSS's fitted which were in decent nick when I left it.

Complains -
Two common issues.. 1) It has the sweaky seat concern where the pleather rubs the seat side base and 2) the dial screen plastic vibrates in anything other than comfort mode.

Do I miss it? Well am in a B9 Audi S4 at the moment which obviously has some benefits.. but something about the Cupra you can't but miss!
