Some kind of vacuum box I believe, though I'm not 100% sure. All the Mk4 Ibiza Diseasels have it, PD130, PD100...

so a strut brace is out of the question then?

Can still fit a strut brace, just have to manouvre(sp?) around it! There are 2 nuts you have to take off so you can move it out of the way while you fit the strut brace. The instructions on how to do it come with the part when you order it from SEAT.
