Gearboxes are nothing special
The facelift cupra has a different ratio gearbox to the pre facelift cupra
But the at has the same gearbox as the pet facelift cupra
Not quite sure why they done that though. The gearbox isn't beefier or anything

I'm sure you'd be able to tell the difference between the gearboxes

You can if you look inside. R gearbox cogs are platinum plated with diamond bearings ( like a Swiss watch) the oil used is made from Oriental virgins sweat. Cupra gearbox internals are made from coal. :p

I know you wouldnt but the fact is its better.
Not a reason to buy an R over a Cupra but people seem to think theres about 3 or 4 differences but if you dig deeper and do proper research you will find theres quite a few more.

Test drive both and make your own mind up is my advice.

Mechanical differences from SEAT UK

The engine fitted to both vehicles is of the same basic design and share the same capacity, bore, stoke and compression measurements. The mechanical components such as block, crank, pistons, cylinder head, camshafts, inlet & clutch are the same.

The Borgwarner turbocharger is also of the same specification, though the intercooler is slightly modified on the CDLA, fitted to the Cupra R. The engine control unit (ECU) is also different, with the software inside the unit mapped to deliver the additional power.

The gearbox fitted to both vehicles is to all intents and purposes of the same 02QJ construction. The only slight difference is internally, where the 4th gear ratio in the LMN fitted to the Cupra R been 34 : 31 = 1.096 as apposed to 41 : 37 = 1.106 in the KZW unit fitted to the Cupra.

The Cupra & Cupra R normally run on the same G63 suspension (though G51 is available on some Cupra's) so the ride would be comparable. The Cupra R does however run slightly different alignment settings as it sits 3mm lower than the Cupra.

Cupra R comes with a dual central exhaust in a diffuser while Cupra has a single oval left exhaust.

Cupra R comes standard with 19" alloys, while Cupra sits on more comfortable 18s

Cupra R has unique leather stitched interior with gloss black moulded plastic seat backs. Cupra can optionally come with leather without the R stitching or fabric.

Cupra R has a small tailgate spoiler in gloss black, and gloss black trim on the inside door handle and outside side pillars.

That's all I can think of. Other than the obvious R badges....
