Hi All,

I'm thinking about changing up my '57 Leon TDI 140 for a Cupra or Cupra R (Mk 2).

Just wondered if people felt the "R" was worth the extra money, aside from being a slightly newer car.

I'm sure it's all here in the forums, but does anyone have a list of things to look out for when doing an inspection? Or a list of things that commonly go wrong?

Thanks.

Leather, tech pack, exhaust all as standard over the standard Cupra,

If it's worth the extra is personal IMO I love mine

Pointless paying extra for an oem exhaust if the OP plans on modding it tho ;)

Leather? Depends if the OP sweats like a pig lol

Tech pack?

The 19s look well nice, as does the diffuser. They're the only things I like about the cupra R.

And that's allllll I'm saying.

I think you will be happy with whichever one u go for.

I will say this, if you are going to personalise your car and can live without leather seats then maybe the cupra is the better buy and you spend the difference on mods. The pre fl still looks great inside with an rns510 nav radio and you can do a lot to the engine for the money.
Thats the route i went and im really happy, wouldnt change it for a standard cupra r thats for sure.

IMO the cupra R cabin is a nicer place to be, plus the standard R inter cooler is better than the cupra

The extra few grand average asking price wasn't worth it for me personally.
Actively didn't want leather or 19s.
Preferred a more subtle looking exhaust and bumper.
So for me, I would have been paying 2k+ for 25 more horses plus a load of stuff I didnt want or need.

The FL Cupra I found and bought has the optional Seat approved and installed Kenwood headunit, so didnt need the inferior technology pack unit either.

I was thinking about this as I might be changing soon. Do love the leather seats but hate them in summer. The gloss black look the nuts though. Like Richie said the exhaust can be changed relatively cheap and the 18" tyres are cheaper but don't look as good as the 19's. Decisions decisions lol.

Depends on whether you like the leather as to if it is worth it or not. When we bought our Mk2 Cupra back in 2011 it was down to a choice of a new (from dealer stock) Cupra or an ex demo Cupra R with 4 k on clock. I really wanted the R, but 2 things put me off.

1. I knew I couldn't live with the leather seats. They are hideous and look chavvy to my eyes.

2. The 19" wheels - look nice but the ride and cost of rubber outweigh the looks.

I went Cupra, but it's a personal choice at the end of the day.
