Might as well add my two-penneth...
The seats in the R are fantastic and worth the extra cash alone. If you sweat on leather seats in an air conditioned cabin then you need to loose some weight - it's not the car, it's you!!!
Then there's the the fact that the mk2 R is rarer than an Italia 458 suggests it might be a good investment in future...??? discuss lol
At the end of the day, it all comes down to what your budget is. If you have R money then buy one, 'cos if you don't then I would bet good money you'd regret it eventually.

I had the money, but didnt see the point of spending £4000 for seats and 19s that i didnt want
and then another £1000 for an exhaust.
I am quite fit and I would still stick to leather lol, so no, i don't need to lose weight thanks
Everyone has an opinion. I don't think its anything to do with budget, but more down to personal taste. For me the leather seats on the R were the biggest negative and a massive turn off. They are rather loud and (my opinion only) likely to limit the appeal of the car when it comes to selling on.
I may be unpopular for pointing this out, and I mean no offence to R owners. Great car otherwise ;-)
And an aside to the car being as saleable as a 458, dream on! Its a VW group hatchback.

s3 ic 150 quid, downpipe 130 quid, mtc induction+ram air 230 quid. inferi black respray 450 quid. i spent the rest of the diff on 4 new tyres r8 coils and cambelt kit. ok tyres and respray werent really necessary but i wanted it done. cupra r are rare fair enough, but there's only one cupra like mine now thats what you call unique. fwiw its the first car ive modded as its the first car ive owned that i actually love to drive.

Only coz you drive naked, try wearing 'clothes' like normal people....... And don't forget leather doesn't stain as easy as cloth, for cleaning up after those 'special' occasions.....
I fell in love with the seats tbh and the 19's are nice too but the difference in price for rubber between 18's and 19's is alot. Its nice to have something a little different to everyones btcc kit aswell.

I bought the R after looking at a few Cupra's.
I preferred the leather interior and still do even after 2 months. All the extra's as standard, loved the 19's and wasn't putt off by the small premium for tires compared to 18's. Much prefer the all black cabin interior - It really is a nice space to be in. Oh, and the LED tail lights are what all other Mk2 owners want

Small premium? You must be looking in a different place to me then. The difference is significant, so much so it is making me seriously consider a second set of alloys for our mk3 Cupra. Partly for the much cheaper premium tyres and partly because the standard 19" wheels are machine cut (making repairs difficult and expensive). Apart from looks, 18" wheels are a much better bet on UK roads. My opinion only.

I don't get this whinging about the cost of tyres, i did some shopping around and paid 130 quid each for Goodyear Eagle F1s on 19s

It's not whinging, and I did point out it isn't just the cost of the tyres that bothers me. When I looked the fitted price for Michelin ps3 was £50 dearer for 235/35 19 against 225/40 18. That is £200 I would prefer to spend on other things than rubber, thanks.
Regardless of cost I think 18" makes much more sense on our crappy roads. You think differently, that's fine by me. If I could have ordered our current Cupra with 18" wheels I would have done so.

I wouldn't mind the cost if the fookin things would last long enough! In the 26k miles done in the R it's had 4 tyres all due to damage ( two with sidewall bulges two holed ) previous FR in 18's did similar mileage and only had tyres replaced due to wear.
Original R rubber was Pirelli, after the last damaged one I've gone for Goodyear , hope they are more resilient.
It's also putting me off the new 280, if there is ever an R I dread to think what size wheels it'll have.....
