• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
Probably just wants new brushes and/or just a clean out, the debris from the brushes builds up and clogs the springs that push the brushes onto the commutator (spinning bit). the brushes then wear down to the point that the now stuck springs do not push them into contact.

This is why tapping motors with a hammer can make them work again for a while.

Brushes will be a few quid, a starter motor will be over a ton.

the mystery deepens!

Bump started it this evening, and the oil pressure/level light started beeping at me. So I quickly turned off the engine. Checked the level of the oil an hour later and there is loads in there (it has just been serviced so that makes sense).

So what do I do next? I have two options... Back to seat where it was serviced less than 20 miles ago, or to Amd where I am booked in on monday for some coilovers and other goodies?

Why would the oil pressure/level alarm at the same time the starter motor fails? Or is there something more sinister??

Maybe the AA man knocked the wire off of the oil pressure switch whilst he was diagnosing the faulty starter?

That's what I though, but I'm not sure the oil sensor is close to the starter motor. I'm going to speak to the AA tomorrow and see if they will tow me to Amd on Monday.

Sounds similar to my problem (noted on another thread) but not quite the same. Key in ignition and turning it, something spins (I guess the starter motor? Or could it be the oil pump? I don't know what starts first) but nothing else. Once I did get the oil light but everything a-ok as Dift says.

Going to be a callout to Seat Assistance for us when we get back home though and fingers crossed not an expensive bill either. This isn't a Tdi though, it's just 1.4 petrol.

Will watch how this thread develops (sorry for the hijack!).

In the end was the earth lead from the starter motor which the AA missed; but AMD caught ;)

They managed to fix it and fit my go faster bits, so all is good

just some new coilovers. Bit too low at the moment (for commuting), I stuggle to drive round south london without taking rubbing the front of the car. Going to raise it up soon enough, but it puts the power down so much better. I need to keep up on trackdays with the group I go with (Clio f1cup, supercharged r32, mustang, csl). Fingers crossed I'll be middle of the bunch now.

I found that when I got my coilovers and the car stop pogoing everywhere. :) Which did you go for?

I had a look round at all the ones on the Market, and decided on The new Ap coilovers. They get crazy stiff once wound right down (for trackdays), and a simple case of winding them back up for day to day use. I'm very impressed so far but they need fine tuning.

And as you say the front hardly bounces under hard acceleration now, always useful for the dartford toll ;)

on the point of raising it back up for daily driving, i had set mine to 4 threads from the bottom of the coilover, pretty low and the same for the back , to see if the ride comfort was lost from having no spring give! really bumpy so ive raised it up to half way down the coilover, its quite nice, alot more comfy but might lower it down i little bit more to see if i can get a correct balance of lowerness and comfort without any roll

Glad it's sorted.

Just on this issue of SEAT Assist - has anyone rung them?

Mine's covered til October 2009 and i called them about 3 months ago when i couldn't get the wheel off with a puncture. Rung out - after about 10 mins of calling i hung up and got on with it myself!

Considering getting AA cover on those grounds!
