Is it just me or has anyone else notice when moving the car at slow speeds (Parking mainly as the audio dips/shuts off for the parking sensors) you can really hear your fuel sloshing around in the tank?

I have only ever noticed it slightly in any of my past cars but with the Leon (Leon MK3 FR 2.0 TDI) it sounds like someone chucking around a half empty water butt underneath the back seats!

Petty I know but just something I was surprised by.

Im so tempted to getbsome sound damping under the rear seats as that's the main place it comes from.

Not sure how the leasing company would feel about it though LOL.

Is it more when the tank is empty? Mine hasn't been below 3/4s full yet and I haven't noticed anything and I have a long twisty reverse into my parking space in an underground car park.

I actually noticed it even more after I had just brimmed it. I woulder if its because I am so used to petrol that now I have a diesel and the fuel is much more viscous it makes a more noticable sloching noise......

I have noticed it in cars gone by so will give a good listen out for it in my Mk3 this evening... If it is there and you saying it causes my brain to tune into it every time I park now, I hope you know that I will hate you, just a little bit.

Common on the mk2 Leon. Seems some things don't change then! Shame.

Never noticed it on my 2012 mk2, didn't notice it on my mk3 till I brime filled it the other day , at first I thought it was something in the boot or something loose under the car
Was going to empty the boot and check under the car till I read this thread, really did sound like something looseas oopposed to liquid moving around

Kinda glad its not just me....

Right, now I need to find out how big of a job it is to get tjose back seats out so I can bung some soundproofing under there.....

From the way the noise travels through my car and as someone else said I think trying to sound proof would not really work too well

On Mk2 you just grab the seat from beneath and pull the front part of the seat up, one firm and strong pull towards the roof on each side. Nothing to break there. Metal clips are just inserted in the holes. And then push the entire seat towards the boot and up, to loosen it off from rear hooks.

Hi all. I'm on the verge of buying a mk3 Leon, 1.8fsi FR DSG. I have to say though, this thread has put me off a bit. Yes, I know I'm fussy, but do all Leons suffer from this noisy fuel tank? I've done a bit of web research and it seems quite a few makes/models suffer from this, but they all tend to be diesel - perhaps due to the viscousity as suggested above. I'd be interested to hear from petrol Leon owners as to whether this is also an issue? And has anyone managed to muffle the sound at all?

Thanks.

Never heard my tank in my TSi regardless of it being full, 1/2 full or near empty.

Suggest you drive a couple and see if you can hear it.

I would always make a decision based on my own experience and opinion rather than listening to the opinion of a tiny percentage of actual owners who believe they have an issue. A vast majority of owners never visit a forum, all forums are the worst possible place to make your buying decision.

Thanks for the reply Skidpan - that's useful.

I've test driven two Leon's but like most cars for sale, they've been nearly empty on fuel. Most of the complaints say the noise is when full or nearly full, so that's why I'm asking for the experience of real users, rather than basing it on two 20 minute test drives. I was very impressed with the car, but think it's worth doing a bit of homework on forums like these before buying. Wish I'd done that before buying my current car - might have saved a lot of hassle!

Thanks.

In fairness after driving the car for almost 6 months and 10, 000+ miles I would say I hear this noise once or twice a month when reversing in a quiet area with no stereo (or very low volume) and giving a slight blip of the gas before coming to a stop or stopping sharply.

Its not like being on the seven seas and also might have something to do with me always 'brimming' my tank in that I believe there could be air trapped at the top of the tank when I cram so much fuel in their, as soon as I have done the first 50 miles on a fresh tank this noise disappears.

Since I posted in this thread I can't recall hearing it on my petrol. My mk2 was diesel and quite obvious tbh. I personally don't think its something that should put you off buying.
