Also, the new 1.5 smoke limits are only for new cars. The limit for pre-2008 cars is the same 3.0/2.5 that it always has been for turbo/non-turbo engines.

mine is an 08 plate fr tdi BLT engine code

doupt anyone needs to worry about smoke when reving standing still. Diesels dont really produce smoke till underload.

You can rev the sh!t out of it but nothing will come out. If its bad then youve got serious engine probs!

It's rubbish, you don't need one on a diesel. There are a million threads as to why, but it can be summed up like this:

Visual cat check is only on cars which require a full cat test
Full cat test is spark ignition cars only
Diesel is compression ignition, therefore exempt.

Mine passed its MOT in March with no cat, and no failures/advisory notices.
:Dyea read all threads confused:cos a freind on fb posted he'd had 2 put new cat on as his had falen off so i posted a link 2 this section sayin our tdi's dont need one so would like 2 hear from any mot mechanics out there 2 clarify the situation:D as i'm not a mechanic can only put what i've heard/read!! was talking 2 a guy@mot garage about it he said much like in my previous link
