De screened the maf housing on my LCR at the weekend with good results.I took out all the restriction from an old housing and fitted a good sensor.Before this mod the highest g/s reading was 212 but now that has increased to 216 .Heres the log;

forgive me if I'm being a donut, but do you mean getting rid of the plastic 'mesh' between the sensor + the airbox / induction kit?

This screen is there to straighten the airflow so the MAF can get an accurate reading, i actually talked to a company that remaps and they told me to avoid doing this.

Its still up for debate though

No pics but really easy to do. Unplug maf, undo jubilee clips, remove maf from car, remove sensor using 5 sided security torx bit(ts25).I used a dremil type drill to remove the plastic mesh but you could easily use a stanley knife and a hacksaw blade. The metal mesh just pushes out easily. If you have any rough edges you could use sandpaper to remove them.I would recommend a good wash and dry before re assembly

I think this is bulls--t .I really can't believe the screens could possibly make any difference to the "straightness"of the airflow.I simply removed a restriction which increased airflow

I have read on several forums and told by mappers it purpose is to straighten air and protect the maf, If it does straighten air to get a more accurate reading then your reading with not be accurate there for your AF mix will be wrong inevitable hurting power not increasing it.

This has been tackled a few time on this forum, still no decisive conclusion but for the sake of 4g/s is it really worth it?

You have to ask why theres screens in the first place... they`d have made more profit not bothering. I have heard too that they play a part in the mafs reading but who knows.

Suck it and see:)

But perhaps in there developement they never tried with these removed to see if they help/reduce the restriction.
They might have thought the screens needed to be there no matter what.
The only way to prove this it to do this on a RR, back to back.
MAF readings are to believed and have proven to be correct with an upscaling figure to give an arrurate BHP reading with the screens in place
Perhaps it's also correct with the screens removed.

I would only be convinced with BHP or Torque increase proven on a RR

But am still thinking about doing this too

Very true Willie, also, Seat may have put the screens in there as extra protection for the MAF / to smooth out airflow, whatever the reasons, and even with them in there may have been perfectly enough airflow for a stock engine.

However, once remapped etc, the grills may start to become restrictive for the extra airflow required by the engine.

As you said, theres only one way to find out!..... FIGHT!! (sorry couldnt help myself!)

I've done this and rate it highly. You can see that the turbo is boosting spot on to the requested too. A log of channel 118 would be good to see n75 duty cycle. The Jetex and descreening has removed 2 of the biggest restrictions in your intake, now all you need is a 3 inch custom TIP and your there.;)
