Hi Andy,
I am going to agree with Dave, If the air mass is giving the wrong/low air intake signal to the e.c.u then it will inject less fuel and run weak, the lambda probe will then tell the e.c.u that it is running lean which will then try and gradually richen the mixture, but as it is a fault that will effect emissions, the light will come on as a warning.
The air mass meter can be checked by dealer or vagcom using the measured value blocks.
I would get it checked, and if it is faulty get a genuine exchange unit, in exchange units the electronics are new, it is the plastic casings that are second hand, as these are matched at the factory.
Best regards,
Jochen.

hi andy did you get ur your excess light problem sorted?had the same problem just had the light turned off,it came up as secondry air system fault...was told to go back if the light came back on to sort it,he said it could be just a split pipe..

Stupid question

I' having the same problem with mu Diagnosis/Excess of pollution light on (as well as the EPC light), they go after a while then come back on.

I've got a VAG Com cable, however can't work out which setting/button to click to erase the problem/do a test on the appropriate area. I've tried the engine setting however it never seems to work. Any suggestions would be greatly welcome.

Or someone coming over and giving me a hand (Falmouth Cornwall....ass end of the country).

Guys, I have had the excess pollution light come on tonight while driving home from my mates, not too sure what it means as I've never had this come on before.. Car felt fine but just gently drove it home.. The light is fixed on. I have restarted the car but it's still there. I've not got vag-com but have a free version turning up soon fingers crossed. This should tell me the fault right?

I don't drive the car to work so it won't be moving now until it's scanned.

Just to confirm it is no.13 on pic below..
