Diesel Engine - Oil Catch Can Question

I was wondering why I haven't seen anybody using an oil catch can for a diesel although the boost pipes get quite oily?
I see the 1.8t lads often installing them but not the people with the Diesels. Why is this and would a diesel benefit from one?
Also when people refer to the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is this what we class as the breather on the rocker cover?

Can someone please explain? Cheers

I saw an increase of about 3mpg on a run when is did mine.

I didn't use a catch can and simply vented it to atmosphere by using a 1 metre pipe and blocking off the intake air pipe with a walking stick rubber base and jubilee clip. It sounds pikeyish but it actually looks really neat. Pics can be found on my progress thread. I'd link ya but I'm on my phone.

My inlet and egr are absolutely spotless now on the inside. One of the cheapest and most beneficial yet overlooked mods img.

Yes the pcv is the breather at the top of the engine.

This mod is often referred to as the elephant mod dude, for searchings sake.

Hope that helps, Daniel

Nice one bud, so a catch can would be beneficial as opposed to harmful yea?
Main reason I'm asking is because I've seen a nice one which will match the colour scheme that I am going for.

Also intrigued obviously, as All knowledge is useful knowledge :)

Yeah that's right mate. Depends if you want to keep emptying it though, I couldn't be bothered really checking it all the time so I just fed my pipe down behind the lower wishbone console!

If you are after a subtle catch can at all mate go to cromwell tools online and buy a compressed airline filter, has a nice vial so you can see it filling up and has a proper filter to catch that horrible oil moisture, screw a 19mm inlet on each side and ready to go, looks really tidy :D Put one on my 1.8 and held it using a P clip :D
