On my car there is the standard speed warning that you can set, I also have a winter tyre speed warning and then there is one you can turn on using OBD11 or VCDS which is defaulted to 75 I think, they all bing as well as giving you a warning on the screen.

Pain up the backside but very helpful in keeping you under the loose license speed on motorway

On my Cupra I set it to 80, but this thing is so quick by the time it beeps and I lift of my right foot is already doing 90 :cartman:

agreed that is why i had the three turned on but it does mean you feel like you are in intensive care with all the alarms going off.

But so far (touch wood) it has worked for me.

I have had the 1.8 TSi FR DSG for about 2 years. I also have a Cupra on order for (hopefully) around October.

Its been a great car for me. I stick to the same rules I would in a Cupra - warm it up, warm it down. When you need the go button its very happy to oblige. Lets not forget the 0 - 60 in this FR is 7.5 seconds. In the real world thats not miles behind the Cupra.

Id say where it suffers most is up at motorway speeds. I had a 200BHP diesel before this and I miss the ability to have almost the same acceleration when already going 70 that you have at 30.

Its also missing some of the higher spec items as you'd expect. It doesnt have the steering wheel paddles for the DSG but i havent really missed them. If you modify your use of the throttle to work with the DSG it will 90% of the time get you in the right gear for what you want to do.

its a really fun car, and whilst im not claiming its as good as a cupra, its not far off. The Car reviewers dubbed it a ''warm hatch'' when it came out. This offends my car. I like to think of it more as a Cupra-lite :p

hoping it can go to a good home sometime before October.

oh. also, its the trim level OP, just in case you missed it :D

@phillmewagon.. have you confirmed 0-60 as 7.5 in dsg ? Manual stock fr dead on 7 seconds reached in second gear. Not bad for a tepid hatch

I so want a cupra. When I got an fr. I was choosing between the 1.4and 1.8. The mpg out weighed the 0-60 times of 7.5 seconds vs 8-8.2 seconds on the 1.4.
Had I known I was going to end up remapping it I’d of gone for 1.8. It’s stage 1 will put it on par with one. And I’ve seen the comparisons on the speedometer.
Yeah the cupra gets a nicer complete overall look but I’d be thinking about it a lot less taking a 180hp and 184lbs of torque to around 250hp and 300ishlbs of torque. Sounds less on paper. But it’s that quick that 50hp is negligible until your nearing your top speeds down you would of already lost your license at that point already to find out who’s win.

New here but that's certainly been an interesting read so far....
The "Premium Badge" arguments especially caught my eye as I bought a brand new BMW X1, X-drive, X line 2.0 petrol auto in april 2018. I test drove the ST FR Sport DSG 2.0TSi in March this year and ordered a new one the same day. On paper, they are pretty much identical performance wise. In reality however, they are not. The Leon is considerably quicker, more comfortable, better equipped and a lot more economical....not to mention a damn site cheaper. Dare I say...a superior car all round.
I know the question was FR v's Cupra but upto this point I cannot fault the FR Sport....every bit quick enough for my/most peoples needs I'd guess.
After having plenty of "horse heavy" cars in the past including an XFR Jag.... fraction of seconds is not really the way I roll these days.
I did consider the Cupra, but in all honesty it wouldn't get me to Tesco's that much quicker and I'm sure my dog will thank me too lol
I'd say good luck to those Cupra lovers and agree with the many posters here that we buy what suits our needs and be happy with it.
It's not like comparing a 924 and a 911 Turbo after all lol

So glad I found this place.
