Hey peeps

Im a newbie - im just looking to find out what the main engine difference is between the Cupra (180bhp) and Cupra-R (210/225bhp)

Im already aware of the exterior styling differences - just wanting abreakdown of the performance really - as far as im aware they both use the same 1.8T engines.... so what other differences are there......differences that make the Cupra-R 35/45bhp more.....

Cheers [B)]

Search will tell you everything mate, but i will list a few;
bigger turbo K04 as apposed to K03 /K03s
2 side mount intercoolers as apposed to 1
80mm MAF to 70mm
Brembo brakes on the front, etc

Thanks Ronin225

Could it be possible to put Cupra-R intercoolers, Turbo and MAF onto a '180' Cupra -in order to get the same power gains....???

The person to speak to is phillc, he put the 2 side mounts on a cupra.
I think he is planning to upgrade to a K04 too

Thanks Ronin225

YES.

cheaper and easier to get a cupra R.
you will also then get better handling and brakes to match.

Its not as easy to upgrade to the K04 turbo as you may think.

Not sure about it being cheaper, and the handling is easy to do, you will need to look at this with the "R" as well, i have fitted the twin intercoolers and is straight forward as is the Ko4 conversion, and there are lots of brake options.
.If you want a cupra r buy one, if you want some thing different and enjoy the challenge of doing it and building some thing that is yours as i do, then buy the cupra and do the mods.
You can have everything the Cupra r is and more!! in the Cupra and have fun in getting there. :D

I like that Phillc - that statement right there is just spot on with what i wanna do..... just awaiting the this friday - where i can go pick her up......

Interested to know bit more about this Phillc

So, so far you have done the intercoolers. How about if i got a FMIC, summat like Forge - rather than having the 2 side mounted - i take it this will also be okay...?

Have much are you budgeting to get completed in doing this?

No - for it all - including your 2 side mount intercoolers, inlet manifold, pipe work, KO4 - basically eveything to get you where you need to be....

I already have all the LCR stuff on, i collected it all over about 12 months but it cost about £150-£200, you would need;
Inlet mani
Charge pipe + Connecting hose to turbo + brackets
Twin intercoolers
top and bottom hoses
Connector pipe
pipe with the maf sensor in it.
once you have all the bits all you need to do is re-route your electrics, it will all fit without cutting it.
There is always twin set ups coming on to the for sale section on here and on ebay.
I haven't done the Ko4 yet but you will neeed the exhaust manifold, LCR exhaust, injectors, and the turbo, i am going to get a hybrid Ko4 which is £695 so i am expecting it to be about £1000 for it all.

I looked into this with my old car and there is more to do than you think.

Also, putting some of the standard LCR stuff on makes no sense, why not go full milltek instead of restrictive factory exhaust? or how about a FMIC instead of the two side mounted ones? if you're going to all the trouble you might as well do it properly!

As for "the handling is easy" - there is a lot to it. Dont forget the steering rack...

Sorry to pee on your campfire, but it's cheaper and easier to buy a LCR, then with the money you save, you can mod that. Remember that the resale on the LCR will always be better than a modded cupra. Besides, even after you spend £1000's there are always the little things that us anoraks notice like the beige rear view and pillars etc that just give the game away.

The LCR also has different bottom arms that mount the ARB differently.

dragging this thread up again,

was having a chat with a mate last night who has a modded "R" am i right in thinking the cupra R has forged internals and the 180 doesnt??

is the stroke any different??
