Replaced my thermostat this morning. But gone and snapped the dipstick guide now:(. I have brought one of eBay but will it be safe to drive with the broken guide. Untill new one comes.

you did exactly what i did last week :cartman:

thermostat was stuck open so wasnt getting up to temp, you'll be fine using he dipstick tube you need to break all the smaller internal tuble bit out first though, you dont want that falling down the dipstick pipe,

vagparts on ebay had them up at 6 quid, and quick turn around, i ordered on the sunday and got the tuesday,

:lol:Lol not the only hommer in here then. That bottom bolt was a right pig to do :(. I got mine of a place called volkbits. Hope they have a fast trun around are the guide easy to fit mate looks like they just pull of.

When mine was broken I just removed all the plastic and dipstick completely and jammed a wee bit of cloth in the metal pipe until my new one arrived!!

haha totally agree, id tried a 1/4inc drive uj fitting, flexy drive and still couldnt get to it, i considered removing the alternator but luckly didnt have to go that far, a bit of manipulating and a 10mm socket mated in somewhat to a 6mm allen key to a ring spanner did the job,

you make sure the stat was in the right way :p, i doubted myself first time!

edit, it was volksbits, god knows where i got vag parts from:happy:

as for putting the tube back, warm it up first just to be safe, and yeah its a push fit, just go steady with it, they become brittle over time, a new ones pretty sturdy..
