Just ordered a new revision G diverter valve which is supposed to hold boost better and is cheaper than the rev D one.
As you can see from the picture it is still a piston type but has a seal on the end.
Anybody any thoughts?

I think as-long as you still feel power & boost I wouldn't waste money unless it's broken...you won't notice that much difference if any unless its broken - it may effect dyno runs but its just all pub talk with the numbers...

The picture still looks like a piston style.
For £33 I'll fit it and keep my D as a spare.
I've always wondered how the piston without a seal can 100% seal boost.

I'm pretty sure it's diaphrame, I would personally stick with the piston type, that's if your not having any problems with it ?

I had this G-type diverter valve in my Cupra when i bought it last year. Replaced it for the Rev-D type pretty soon because i heard the diaphrame types would break easily.

I experienced no difference in boost or spool up type between rev D or rev G at all. Haven't tested that on a dyno though.

The diaphragm Valves are only issues on ko3 engines as far as I know from the heat issues being right on the turbo.
I have t seen any Cupra or ko4 valves fail
I must admit I did think the revision G was an older revisin than D , thoughtit was questioned at the time it first came out?

Hey guys,

My car developed a loss of boost at higher rpms (and therefore pressures) on Friday. I think (I've not checked) it either has a non-OEM diverter valve or a spacer on a standard OEM one, either way it vents whilst I'm still on the gas at higher revs - its therefore broken.

Needing a new diverter valve I've looked into this very same issue today. I think the G type is the old revision of the previous diaphragm part:

I'm going to buy a replacement "D" type - 06H145710D.

There's that much on this valve on this forum and other VAG forums I think I've confused myself but if my two penneth helps......

I'll let you know how it goes.

Kev - where did you order yours from?

Cheers,

Joe

I ordered mine from Dave at Seremotors £33 delivered it should be here tomorrow.
I read lots on this and I think it's a beefed up version of the old diaphragm style.
The old diaphragm style did work better with boost control and there is a thread on the mk5 Gti forum where Nick at r tech has been doing some testing and it has held boost better and everyone seems impressed.
A few members on there have went from a rev d to a g and all has been well.
So a rev g is £33 and a rev d is about £45
For £33 I thought go for it as I've always wondered how the piston type can completely seal boost without a seal on the end to completely block the boost.

Well I've fitted the new valve today and the car still drives fine although there was nothing wrong with it before.

The only noticeable difference is when boosting the noise I used to hear with my rev D valve of air hissing is greatly reduced.
Not had a proper chance to try it out but that makes me wonder if the rev d valve totally seals the boost.

When I get time and the weather picks up that maybe worth doing.
Just thought it was strange how the turbo whistle/hiss was reduced when on boost.

Don't think it means much Kev , on the 1.8 T's you got more hiss turbo noise when putting the forge 007 on , and that held boost much better :)

Just think it all depends how sensitive they are in operation , I think more resistance more noise .

Hmmmmm.

I thought that there was less boost pressure at higher rpm and more boost pressure at the peak point in the middle of the rev band?

N0ble I agree, poor description from myself , I was talking about 3500+ rpm, so you're right - mid range!

Got the valve changed now, it appears the one from the car is the original revision, can't seem to attach the pics I took but the diaphragm definitely is busted.

From reading a lot of responses on the different threads on this topic it seems that it doesn't really matter which one you fit, though I would agree with Kev that you'd think a rubber seal would be more effective. Having said that I'd already chosen the upgraded one - thanks to Dave @ Sere for the swift delivery!

Cheers

Hey Marshall,

I am looking to add a stage 1 remap and air filter/ induction kit to my leon cupra 2.0 mk2 and have heard i need to change the valve on the boost.

how is the rev g valve? which one would you recommend?

thanks

This is 4 years old.....

Buy the Rev G - it works. The D leaks - whether people notice or hear this varies....... they leak by design. It always will as a hard plastic piston will never create an airtight seal..... The G uses a rubber seal that completely closes off the opening.
