Well I finally got round to changing the timing belt, what a pig of a job.
Started at 07:30 finished at 19:30 12 hrs. I think an extra pair of hands would have helped to speed up the job, as constantly climbing from under the car to the top of the engine to check the timing marks and move that tw*t

of a engine mount around, which is really time consuming. Plenty of coffee breaks and an hour spent looking for a lost bolt from the tensioner didn’t
help. On the final check before pulling the pin on the tensioner, found the belt had jumped 2 teeth on the camshaft sprocket.

After a strip down and reset everything went back together OK. It’s not a technically demanding job just a frustrating one due to the lack of space. I was quite surprised with the condition of the removed components after 40000 miles and 4 years of
service, the water pump, belts, and tensioner all looked in new condition. Glad its done for peace of mind and would DIY it again if needed, would be a lot quicker the second time. I was a little apprehensive when turning the key to start her up, as the sound of valves in contact with pistons lurked in the back of my mind, but everything was fine.
