Hey guys i have a luna grey (silver) 170 pd leon.

I was wanting to buy some carbon fibre vinyl and wrap bits of the car to enhance its look.

Is it really difficult? is it easy to remove if you mess it up? and the big question, where should i put it? door pillars? mirrors? anywhere else?

I really want to make my car unique for as cheap as possible lol

Thanks

It's not difficult at all, although wing mirrors can be entertaining. While you're wrapping you can remove it cleanly with no problem, after it's been there for an hour or two you will need to warm it up slightly to take it off properly.

As for where to put it, carbon fibre vinyl is a bit garish, so is better suited to detailing rather than large panels. So door pillars look good, I've been tempted to do my wing mirrors but the curves can make that very difficult. The front bumper splitter (if you have one) is another option, maybe a rear spoiler again if you have one.

Other than that I quite like it on the interior, for example the heater controls/radio surround, or perhaps the door handles.

But definitely don't go overboard with the fibre. Matt black can be used more liberally, I'm not sure any other colour would work with the greys.

I've done a few bits on mine (pics on sig)

Its all about patience but it pays off. Best with a hairdryer on its lowest setting to help it on curves etc.

I have more film on the way to do mirrors, front grill surround and washer panel next to bonnet.

I trying to some wrapping now, mainly interior. I don't like carbon wrap, it looks cheap for me. I'm doing my bits in matt black. I messed up first few attempts but actually getting better now. Key for me was patience and hairdryer was vey handy :)

Do i put the hairdryer on the paintwork or vinyl itself, yeh i was thinking matt black vinyl where would that go well?

I heat he vinyl itself, it makes it more flexible and easier to manipulate. I'm using matt black on the radio fascia, aircon panel and speedo cluster. Might do B pillars and mirror covers as well as I have matt black roof and bonnet

That must be hard with the radio buttons?

yeah, a bit tricky, I couldn't get it right first few times but it looks much better. Took quite a while for me to get it done but I'm not that experienced. Proffesionals wanted like £50 to do it so I thought I'll save some money and have a go. Luckily vinyl is cheap...

One other tip is to clean the surface as much as possible. It'll get the vinyl to stick better, and any imperfections in the surface (even bits of grit) will show up on the vinyl. It's not as good in covering scratches etc as you might think.

no i admit vinyl does show the imperfections but at least if someone looks at mine they just think i did a bad job with my wrapping instead of oblivously reversing into something :)

that's very ture. That's why I don't try to wrap any external panel :D I have so many stonechips that it will look so bad :D

did you put holes for where the buttons would go? or have you used multiple pieces?, do you have a picturr?

I cut the wholes. When I bought flyeyekit for my headlights it came with a scalpel which is great to cut around buttons as it's so sharp it's much easier to cut trim it than with scissors. I'll try to get some pictures later today

I was taking them off. It's not tricky really, just have to take the fascia off (it clips o so you need to wedge it off from four corners), once you have fascia off the rest just holds on few screws, once they are out it comes off.

Try Hexis carbon wrap as opposed o the 3M DiNoc, it's more pliable around corners and has a better finish too I think. I've wrapped a few interior parts if you want to have a look in my RR thread for pics. Gonna wrap the hood over my speedo dials tomorrow all being well and that should wrap up my interior mods :p boom boom!!
