I bought an evo over a scooby purely due to the fact the scoob has such a chav image. Its all well doing yor research, however, even though its on paper, 20mpg is alot less then you think it is ;) However, it makes you appreciate how much money the people who run as a daily and happily modify a 7/8/9 must be on :) I've got fairly deep pockets.. No kids to run, and on 26k+ take home, I just couldnt Justify 20mpg on a daisy drive lol.

We run an st220 as a family car and its the gfs work horse 20mpg if were lucky but never look at it like that got it cuz it was big and fast enough with the dream science map and full powerflow!

The LCR was supposed to be mine and the gf's family car, but thats not happened now. One thing i noticed with the 220's, they chuck out so much water top end when on song.

When all said and done its for you to decide mate ive owned evos, scoobys, pulsars, civic turbos,tdo4 glanzas ect ect only one I'd never own again is a EVO they just drain ya bank account buddy..

Totally my mate bought an evo 8 about 4 months ago, yes it is quick and he can afford anything however he is already looking to sell due to fuel! It is such a love/hate relationship.

I always think though if you can afford it go for it as you will always regret not doing it when married and a few kids are in your life lol

I have modded a few cars into the £1000's previously and vouched never to do it again due to the massive loss of money, just try to by one pre-modded and well looked after. Did this with a VX220 turbo and actually made a profit!

looking at evo 8 mr's , bout 11k budget but dont have "deep pockets" but i walk to work so mpg is not a problem as will be a toy for weekends. or is there a way to bring the leon back to life as they seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper =( also how do brakes prices etc compare to seats?

on my evo 5 i was running grooved performance friction discs all round at 700 and xp8 pads all around at 300. but that was for track use.

you can get deals on the lancer forum for pads and discs all round at around 400-450

its not all a horror story!! just the fuel costs but like you said, as a weekend toy its a no brainer!!!

What I wouldn't give to work close to home!, if you walk to work then it's perfect!

I'm looking at 7 & 8's myself atm budget should be £8-10 at least so you got that covered

Running an Evo as a daily isn't as expensive as people make out. I ran mine for just over a year day in day out in all weathers. The most expensive part is fuel as its been said but no 350bhp car is great on fuel. Tyres are just as expensive as any other car. The servicing is pretty low but you only need to do the major one once every year the rest is just engine oil. I bought mine standard and spent a fair bit on it but the Evo scene is bloody big and some body is always selling parts that'll be gold to someone else. If its just a weekend car then it's a no brainer. My old Evo would murder my LCR.

The day I sold it :(

had my evo 6 tme for nearly 3 yrs
only spent minimal on it
new rear discs and pads £200
exhaust downpipe £80 japspeed
rest just servicing which oil and filter £30 every 4500mls
ayc oil change £30 for oil
diff/gearbox and transfer box oil £50
brake fluid £5
plugs £40
air filter hks £10
fuel filter £8
these are trade prices and work done myself
so they are not too bad to keep on road if you do work yourself
only thing dear is fuel but you dont buy one if thats an issue
insurance through pace ward(mlr) not much more expensive than the cupra
