Hello guys I'm new to the forum, this is my 1st post :) I've just recently got myself a cupra r 1.8t 2005 90k service history, I paid £3700, price about right? . Anyways I was told It's been remapped to abouts 280bhp, has recurculating dump valve, quick shift gearbox, full cobra exhaust system non resonating (decat), I'm wanting to get a standard Cat put back in. As I've been told it's illegal and will fail mot without one and it seems just a bit too loud (set a car alarm off the other day lol). Will I have to get it remapped again and what sort of price would it be? I'm a noob when it comes to remapping haha any advice is appreciated, thanks

Does the car just need 1 cat to pass the mot? Is there 1 cat in the down pipe and one main cat after that?

Not really fussed about the power to be honest. Cant imagine it making much of a difference and sports cats are fairly pricey, Not sure what map is on car, yeah it needs one to pass mot, it doesn't have a cat, it's straight through pipe.

My guess is yes you should remap it if putting a stock cat on. These cars can adapt but your effectively putting a bottle neck in the system. That could effect spooling of the turbo, fueling etc. How much of an effect will depend on its current map. Where are you based?

You'd need to contact a mapper for a price but they can flash the ecu back to stock or stage 1 levels.

OK mate I see where your coming from.. I'm from Cumbria but bought the car from Darlington. Flash the ecu, like a reset of the engine so to speak? How much would this cost? You can probably I'm new to all this remapping business Haha

You're not going to be able to drop a standard cat on there with a "full" Cobra exhaust. Sports cat will replace the decat piece. If you insist on a standard twin cat setup then I would have thought you would need a standard downpipe too. Of course there may well be someone on here who would like to swap their standard downpipe and cats for your Cobra downpipe and decat.

Stage 1 map probably 200 ish, cant think of anyone that far north. P-Torque in wolves is a bit far?
The maps set the parameters the ecu uses to run the car. Stage 1 assumes no modifications.
Stage 2 (which I'm assuming you have) parameters are set to include a bigger freer flowing exhausts, Front mount intercooler + bigger intakes.

As Bouncerbeater said it wont just drop in so you'd be better off changing the whole exhaust and selling it on.

You could even ask a dealer if they would reflash it back to a stock map they might charge you an hours labour? sort your exhaust out as well?
I think you'd regret it though.

Thanks for the info bud.. Seems to me like it's going to be more fuss and money than its worth so I'm just going to leave it decat and keep the power!! ;)
