Do you have faith in R/Road figures?

Hi all,

Who has had their LC / LCR on the Rollers? and what power did it make?

Please state your 'Power at the wheels' and your 'Flywheel' figure...

It'd be great to see some graphs...

Thanks

I've never put one of my cars on one, mainly because i dont see the point.

The only good thing i see about them is a before and after when your getting a remap, so you can see how much extra you have. The final figure is really irrelevent to use for bragging rights, as one will say one figure, another say another.

At the end of the day, a few hp or a dozen or so lb/ft aint really gonna mean anything on the road, so i dont really get it.

It depends on the rolling road. The only two I know and trust are Power Engineering and JKM, although having said that, Power Engineering was reading quite a bit down last time I went there.

My LCR went on the rollers at JKM the other day and made 209.5bhp at the fly with a Green panel filter and a Forge DV. It made 208.5bhp with a standard filter. So that is pretty much bang on book figures (210LCR - 210 is 210PS which is just under 210bhp).

From what I hear - P.E. Figures' are not accurate..... Over inflated in quite few caes, from what I have seen.

However, I did see ur post about ur visit to JKM - And I was very impressed with their rollers - As your figure was believeable... ;)

What was ur power at the wheels though?

I don't know the power at the wheels, it's not on the sheet and I never thought to ask! My bad....

With regards to Power Engineering, they used to be spot on, but seem to have gone wrong in the past year. Perhaps their dyno needs a good service? I don't know.
I remember going to PE with the Ford Focus Owners Club (FFOC) some time back and totally standard cars were consistently making book figures, and modified cars were making figures exactly as you would expect. In recent times when I've been there that's not been the case though, as they have been reading under. In fact, I went there with the Celica-Club and nobody got anywhere near their correct figure. Celica TSports (190bhp) were making anywhere from 160-185bhp.

So, I guess the moral of the story is read up on the dyno you're going to first and don't put too much faith in the accuracy. A good dyno will earn a good reputation.

Thanks RobM.

Do you think you'd be able to get your 'power at the wheels' figure please? (maybe ask JKM :) )

It's just that I would really like to see some evidence for myself as regards to what and who's power figures to believe....

So at the mo Rob.... I think ur figures from JKM are probably the best (as in most probably accurate and believeable) figures I have seen...!

What will be very interesting is the results of the rolling road day at JKM soon. Check out the Rolling Road Days forum and keep an eye out for the results after the day. Or, if you're in the area, pop along.

Sadly I can't make it :(

my LCR went on powerstations rollers in july and made 236.4bhp at the flywheel and 161.3bhp at the wheels. it also had 297.9Nm torque (don't know what that is in lb ft!) i only had a 007p valve on there at the time so it would be nice to see if the mods i've done since have made any improvements;
ramair induction,
forge TIP and top intercooler hoses.

i'd post up the graph but i haven't got a clue how to attach a PDF file and i can't host it in photobucket either. :(

Its good to know what your putting out at the wheels as that could then be made as a comparison against another car. people generally argue about flywheel figures not meaning much but wheel powers do.

I believe rolling road runs are quite informative, it tells you graphically how healthy your car is running. It lets you know the shape of your torque curve and how smooth/uneven it is. It also lets you know where peak power is achieved which is good information to have especially if you want the best out of your car.

I mean there's no point changing up at say 7500rpm, when your peak power is at 6500. The only way you'll find this out is from a rolling road run.

It would make you aware of problems you may not thought you had, ie severe boost spikes, irregular up and down spikes in the graph etc.

To say they are useless and not worthwhile is perhaps a bit silly IMO as they do serve a purpose especially with the points ive made above.

Ive had 272bhp (234whp) @ jabbasport,
277bhp (240whp) at JBS
242whp @ awesome (Fly figure was low though @ 256bhp, but awesome fly figures are another story)

(all in different states of tune, jabba 1st, JBS 2nd and awesome 3rd)

Ive since had FMIC/BF exhaust/ Tip so hopefully should see a little more on top.

Apologies, my post was a bit simplistic - I just don't take that much from the actual recorded bhp figures as they seem so varied depending on where you go.

The plot is good to see as the stage 2 map combined with the Milltek, TIP, DV and 4 bar FPR showed that whereas the power originally died off at around 5900rpm, after the mods I could keep my foot in until around 6500rpm before changing.

Its just the bhp numbers I tend to take with a pinch of salt.

they had the handheld ducting pointing at one and a MAHOOSIVE fan inbetween the bloke with the ear defenders on and me (the fat lad walking at the back in the grey t-shirt) keeping the rest nice and cool. it then got a hammering going home from gloucestershire back to bedfordshire.
