claudefrog what errors were being caused by your faulty MAF? Ive just disconnected mine but Im still in work at the moment and havent started the car since disconnecting it for the drive home, what can I expect? Error light on the dash? Im sure most people are aware since having REVO ive had boosting problems as the car is only making 16psi then settling to about 14psi then tailing off as expected...

Ive been quoted 56 quid by GSF in cardiff through a mate of mine, is this a good price? this isnt exchange and I believe its a bosch unit.

oh yeah is there anything else I need to do now to check if it is a MAF related problem? do I need to disconnect the battery and leave it for a bit?

Just see how it responds while disconnected. When mine was disconnected obv should get a fault code and I also had the light in the center row end column light up? Not sure what it is.. No need to disconnect battery.

You really need to datalog peak MAF values to get an idea of what it's seeing, if it's low it's 'likely' to be faultly/contaminated. You might not get any error codes from a faulty MAF, when it gets bad you'll get a '...system to lean code'. With it unplugged you will get a CEL and error code that'll need clearing once it's plugged back in. Your boost issues could be related to the MAF, but also could be N75 or a leak somewhere.

As said, logging is the quick fix, it will let you know straight away if MAF is at fault or not Instead of guessing at things.
Such a drop in boost maybe suggests fault lies elsewhere.
I know when I was seeing max 90g/s at MAF I didnt notice any considerable drop in boost pressure..

so when your MAF was faulty what exactly did it do the car, loads of people have told me it does loads to the cars performance, other people tell me it does nothing! arghhhh

Mine was fualty and was reading 70g/s. This would cause the lean code as Kev stated. This dropped the car into gimp mode and cut the boost to 4psi. Sometimes it would just keep the boost but you would hear/feel the car reving like a n/a car. No whoosh from the intake etc.

Total cnut of a problem that vagcom showed up straight away! £56 is a great price, I paid £70 for an exhange unit from ECP.

Thats the thing, it just didnt feel as agressive as it was before. So I did some logs and found 90/gs max. Had a running lean code but to be honest no real problems with the car generally.

Sounds like the maf is def on its way out, sometimes comes on boost hard and then other times just feels flat?
