Has anyone come across this one?

When pulling off reasonably quickly I accelerate normally, lift off the accelerator to change gear and the revs don’t drop immediately.

If I press the clutch down, it revs up to the rev limiter until I either put it in the next gear, or it wakes up and realises that the accelerator is not being pressed.

If I don’t press the clutch it keeps pulling very hard for up to a second or so.

Obviously, this is a good way of maintaining boost, but it can be scary when the car decides to take off on its own.:-o

What could the problem be?

mine does it all the time it so annoying makes you look like you cant drive as it revs the grannys out of it .but it does help as the boost is strait there lol

Have noticed mine do it once or twice - normally when I've only been for a short trip into town or something! First time it did it on a roundabout which was slightly worrying...

Surely it shouldn't do it though

Agreed it does make you look like a tw*t when you're trying to pull away smoothly.

What could it be ......

Throttle position sensor
Sticking throttle body
DV not working
n75
ecu

The list is endless although it did have a new accelerator pedal assembly under warranty for the very same problem. It now seems to have got worse!

Any suggestions fellas?

Not an LCR, but my LC used to hold on to the revs for a while after dipping the clutch. It did it from new and the dealer always said it was fine when it went in for servicing. It was the one thing that I hated about the car.

After the remap the 'problem' disappeared :)

mine does it too. there was a thread on here a few days ago and somebody mentioned that the ECU doesn't like it very much when the car is revved and not under any load.

Is it not when the car is over boosting?? and more fuel is going in still after you have dipped the clutch,Have a search for over boost and see if the problem the same

It happens mostly when you give it some beans and then either lift off fairly quickly to either slow or change gear.

Pulling into gaps in the traffic or changing lanes on roundabouts can be very interesting.

It is as though the car doesn't notice that you've taken your foot off!

If it disappears with a remap it may be an ECU fault

Seems to be a reasonably common problem - on 210's anyway [:@]

mine does this too..but its not done it for awhile.. its pretty scary usualy in 1st gear.. when u giv it some beans!.. once or twice ive nearly ran in2 the bak of some1.. mines a 210 been remaped from new!

happens to me most of the time when giving the beans, thought if fitting the sprintbooster would sort this problem out but it does not

Not sure about the LCR but my old ST200 did the same.... it's throttle hang. especially if you have a induction kit installed. there was a fix but not sure how this would work on the LCR... it involved fitting a domestic radiator cap with a 5mm hole drilled in it inserted INSIDE the 3/4" rubber hose that supplies air to the bypass air valve. Simple mod and completely fixed throttle hang... You could also disconnect the car battery for 20-30 min so the ECU resets itself then let it idle for 10 min then take it for a run so the ECU can learn the settings.... thats if u have installed a cone filter.

Car is totally standard, gonna try cleaning the throttle body to start with. I will try to find out some more about the 'throttle hang' situation - cheers for the info.

How quickly do peoples revs drop when you rev the engine with no load (stationary and out of gear). Mine seems to rise very quick but drop slowly back to tickover - is this normal?

My 2 Cupra R's do this, One is an MY03 210 version and the other is MY05 225 version.
Only happens when giving it a bit of stick, always thought it was due to my poor drving though.

What you are talking about is a fault. Your cars should not be doing this.

Restricting the hose to the bypass valve from 19mm dia to 5mm dia would be an extremely silly thing to do.
