Doesn't accelerate cleanly through the gears

First post... I have been reading the forum since I bought my Leon (1.8 20V T Sport) a couple of months ago and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions or idea's.

Basically the car runs fine most of the time. However if I rev all the way through a gear, the car seems to bog down as if there is an lack of air or fuel at higher recs. This doesn't happen all of the time and is obviously more noticeable in the higher gears. I have checked with vag-com and there are no errors, and I have taken a look at the air filter and it looks ok. Is there anything else I should check?

Also does anyone know a good garage in the Reading area for servicing the car.

Thanks,
Rob

MAF sensor..
try unplugging it and see if it drives better.. if so, its expiring and you need a new one.

1st place to try.

Thanks for the reply I will try disconnecting the sensor and see if it makes a difference.

Will there be any problems with running the car without the sensor connected? I guess that the engine warning light will come on?

Disconnected the MAF sensor and now the car is as smooth as anything. Also hadn't bothered me before, but first thing in the morning before it warmed up it would also feel a bit odd and that feeling has gone away too.

So now I have another question. Should I change the MAF sensor or should I clean it? There is a really useful guide on the forum on how to remove it and clean it, but it also mentions that the sensors are prone to failure. Does anyone else have experience of this and weather cleaning the sensor fixed it?

By the way where can I buy "Isopropyl Alcohol" from if I do decide to clean it in?

Thanks again,
Rob

I cleaned mine, and it worked ok for a week or so, then broke again, so I tried to clean it again, but to no avail.

So I had to get a new one... make sure you get a proper Bosch one, as I got a cheapy one, and it failed after a few weeks, and caused irratic idle RPM's.

Don't know if you have tried Seat at Emmer Green ,they have been really taken apart on here for bad service but it was a long time ago (years i think) I resently used them for a couple of parts and the service centre for a small problem and found them really helpful. One of the staff told me about this site and the stick the dealership had taken in the past ...so maybe things have changed for the better thanks to comments on here.

I love it on here......

I work in IT, and the first thing we say is "have you rebooted your PC"

the equivalent on here is "have you replaced your MAF"

Thanks for everyone's responses. I changed the MAF sensor with a reconditioned Bosch part from Eurocarparts (70ish quid if I gave them my old one). Car is running much better now. I'll have to see if it improves my mpg too.

Still on the lookout for a good local garage in or around Reading if anyone knows of one. The Seat dealer on the Peppard road is fairly local for me, but hoping to find a good independent as I am not keen on dealer prices :)

Thanks again,
Rob
