Hi all,
I'm researching my next car and I've whittled the voices down between the golf and the Leon. I prefer the looks of the leon by far and they're about 1k cheaper than the golf (it's a no brainer really) but there is one thing I'm keen to find out. Can the multimedia touchscreen be removed? And is it double DIN? I really want to put a pioneer CarPlay unit in my next car so it's important to me to be able to accommodate it. It looks like it's the correct size but after a little googling I couldn't find out. I've seen lots of mk2 Leon facia adapters for a double din units but not the mk3 which makes me wonder if the mk3 can accommodate a double din unit.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated! Many thanks.

Can't see it working as a lot of the cars functionality needs the preinstalled touchscreen unit.

The golf is probably the same as the leon with a lot of car settings controlled via the headunit.

A friend has a new golf gtd and you use the radio screen to set up the driving modes, trip computer stuff, parking sensors etc.

I'd find one to have a go in with your phone before writing off either car.

The display unit in the dash is just a screen ( made by alpine) it's only about 2 cm deep, there is plenty of room in the huge void behind so a double din unit would fit in easily
But as other have said, whilst an aftermarket head unit will fit, you will loose a lot if the stuff on the car that is controlled through the infotainment system
