Have been considering doing something similar in mine with a relatively cheap 7" android tablet I've had knocking about. Nothing major, just to see how it works and if it'd be good enough to live with day to day. Just need to pull my finger out and buy the fascia really so I can have a play.

Watching the progress of this thread intently :p

Guys I am trying to get my hands on a relatively cheap double-din console and fascia.. Here (Cyprus) its quite expensive to buy from local dealer (almost 700 euros for both) and its really worth spending that kind of money.. anyone knows/has someone who is selling a Seat Leon MK1 double din console and fascia?

Keep up the good work! I am keeping an eye on the process of the thread mate! Looks really nice!

Got my Galaxy tab installed and connected. Works like a dream just need to get rid of alternator whine from having two amps now!

Just figuring out automation program for brightness. managed to get the screen to timeout when discharging and screen-on with live ignition. Might do a video once i'm completely happy with it

What's the total cost been, roughly?

90 for tab
would have been 30 for double din fascia but had to buy another one since I butchered it too much!
15 for single din centre console
10 soldering iron
10 for bits and bobs for fixing tab in place
15 for golf mk4 surround/trim
10 for 10a power/audio ground
20 for cheap dremel, required for chopping centre console
then you got amps, and wiring for them

Is there any chance u could remove double din facia from your tolly and copy out part no please?

Thanks in advance.

1M0-858-061-C1-UQ is the part number for it. I had to ring Seat thats the only place I could get it.

Currently all ripped back out for a few days while I get to the bottom of the alternator whine. I'm thinking it's one of the amps as it still occurs with tab out..

Where can I find double din console and how much it would cost ?

Got to the bottom of my alternator whine. It was coming from one of my amps...wierd. Have a replacement amp in now and all is good, good tweaking with apps and look/feel of tab. Have a small niggle with volume controls because no music app seems to have volume built in! Torque app works a treat though!

Console could do with tidying up, thinking of plasti-coating it

looking really good.. im definately goona do this with my nexus 10.... how have you connected your power and audio?.. have you used to tasker app to power it on when you turn the ignition on

im thinking of designing a removable pod possibly.. so you can slide it in from the side into the usb port then going to a hub so i can add other usb devices like removable flash drives etc .. and also a seperate USB DAC to get audio to the head unit im thinking of mounting in the glovebox then use a steering wheel remote to control the volume of the head unit

ive been lookin at this thread and gettin some ideas http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113259

Only just seen this. Nice work! Tidy looking install. I contemplated doing this with damaged Google Nexus tab I bought for spares, but just couldn't be bothered lol.

Just to answer your questions, I rewired the cig lighter to an ignition live. So there is a USB cable from tab to cig lighter. This then allows the tab to charge, only when the ignition is on. The audio is connected to a 4 channel amp via the 3.5mm port to RCA input of amp. The amp is then connected to another amp to power the sub.
I use a free program called LLama instead of Tasker. I've programmed it to turn screen on and 70% brightness on charging, and screen off/WiFi off when discharging/battery.

Currently looking into other apps to support the car/tab like gps tracker and better home screen. Also need a hard volume controller, as I just cant seem to find a decent soft control/app.

using a flash drive is a good idea if you can dock it somehow. I'm having a few teething problems getting stuff on it over WiFi, just signal problems.

Thanks mate, I've now become a master of plastic welding via soldering iron! The fascia doesnt clip into the console like the single din fascia does so welded it in over the buttons. Seems kid proof though as I experienced!

Awesome stuff - I'm jealous! Was thinking of doing this to mine once I buy another tablet for the wife :p

My idea (no clue if its possible) was to move my Alpine to the glove box - I've already binned the crappy CD changer - and use that to play audio through from the tablet wired through a 3.5mm cable, so I can still use the Alpine for bluetooth for my phone.

I would also buy tasker and set it up on my in-dash tablet to turn on the screen, wifi, and bluetooth (to connect to OBD) when power is supplied - and also on my phone to turn on its wifi hotspot when connected to my bluetooth stereo. In theory this would mean that I could get into the car, turn the ignition on which powers up the Alpine and tablet, my phone would bluetooth connect to the Alpine and turn on wifi hotspot, which the tablet could then use for streaming music etc!

The only other thing I would want to do then would be to find somewhere to hide a QI charger for my phone, as the battery drain might be rather a lot!

All I need is a double-din console and a LOT of time...
